Contract position through the end of 2026 (high likely of extension into 2027 based upon project needs)

Pay Range: $90-100/hr.

Role Overview

This position is for a recovery-focused engineer to help recover critical database platforms with speed and confidence during a cyber event or large-scale outage. The goal is to facilitate database recovery, partner with DBAs, and own operational aspects of the database recovery stacks. This is not a traditional DBA role, but the candidate must understand DBA language, challenges, and database engineering concepts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and support database recovery and cyber resiliency strategies for mission-critical systems.
  • Work across Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, graph databases, and other database technologies.
  • Develop backup, restore, replication, failover, and disaster recovery approaches aligned to RPO/RTO needs.
  • Facilitate recovery readiness, including recovery testing, tabletop exercises, and cyber recovery simulations.
  • Partner closely with DBAs, infrastructure, application, security, and business continuity teams.
  • Support automation of recovery processes, validation checks, health checks, and resiliency reporting.
  • Understand adjacent ecosystem needs such as authentication, DNS, certificates, and Linux/Windows dependencies.
  • Provide technical leadership during major incidents and disaster recovery events.
Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience: Strong experience as a Database Engineer, Database Administrator, or Infrastructure Engineer supporting enterprise databases. Deep expertise in database backup/recovery, high availability, replication, and disaster recovery architectures.

Technical Skills:
  • Experience with database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
  • Understanding of Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) concepts.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery planning, recovery orchestration, and automation.
  • Familiarity with authentication, DNS, and certificate dependencies.
  • Understanding of Linux and Windows platforms.
  • Hands-on scripting or automation skills using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar tools.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting cyber recovery exercises or ransomware recovery planning.
  • Familiarity with zero trust, immutable storage, and cyber vault concepts.
  • Experience in cloud database resiliency across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Knowledge of enterprise tooling for backup automation, monitoring, and configuration management.
  • Experience working in highly regulated environments with strong audit and compliance requirements.
  • Relevant certifications such as OCP, Azure Database Administrator Associate, or AWS Database Specialty.
