Controls Engineer
Location: Tucson, AZ (On-Site)
Duration: 24-Month Contract
Schedule: 1st Shift
Pay: $56 - $58 an hr

We are seeking a Controls Engineer to join an innovative engineering team focused on the integration, testing, and validation of autonomous vehicle technologies. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with autonomous haul trucks and large-scale industrial equipment while collaborating with cross-functional engineering and software development teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, update, and execute test and validation plans for autonomous vehicle systems.
  • Perform hands-on testing of autonomous haul trucks and related equipment.
  • Analyze test data to identify performance trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, software, and control system issues.
  • Document test results, defects, and observations with clear technical communication.
  • Prepare detailed test reports and provide engineering recommendations.
  • Collaborate with software developers, system engineers, operators, and other stakeholders to resolve technical challenges.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to autonomous systems performance and reliability.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 2-4 years of engineering, testing, validation, controls, or autonomous systems experience.
  • Internship experience will be considered.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills within complex systems.
  • Proficiency using Windows-based operating systems and computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving, teamwork, time management, and independent working skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with vehicle testing, validation, or integration activities.
  • Knowledge of Ubuntu or Linux operating systems.
  • Experience creating test plans, procedures, and documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Familiarity with autonomous technologies, including perception, planning, positioning, or control systems.
Work Environment
  • Primarily field-based testing in a remote proving ground environment.
  • Work conditions may include hot, dry, dusty outdoor settings similar to mining or heavy equipment operations.
  • Candidates must be comfortable frequently ascending and descending large machines while carrying equipment.
