OverviewApex is seeking a senior-level Technical Writer to support a large documentation initiative focused on project management, project controls, and internally developed tools. This role will lead the development, restructuring, and ongoing maintenance of PMO documentation, including a large Project Management (PM) manual, standard operating procedures (SOPs), job aids, and process documentation.
The position is expected to be a long-term engagement (initially one year) and will work closely with PMO leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to capture, formalize, and maintain evolving processes as new tools and systems are rolled out.
Key Responsibilities- Review, update, and restructure an existing PM manual currently ~200 pages, which is expected to grow significantly or be broken into more modular content.
- Develop new documentation from scratch where no existing content is available, including procedures, SOPs, and job aids.
- Conduct stakeholder interviews to extract process knowledge and document current-state and future-state workflows.
- Collaborate with PMO leadership and partner teams to define documentation priorities, criticality, and sequencing.
- Create supporting diagrams and flowcharts (e.g., using Visio or equivalent approved tools) as needed to clarify processes.
- Support documentation related to PMO tools and systems, including budgeting tools and other platforms being rolled out through the year.
- Help assess and potentially evolve documentation toward a more scalable knowledge base model over time.
- Participate in an initial assessment phase to evaluate documentation scope, effort, and sequencing, and contribute to a roadmap or prioritization deliverable.
- Maintain documentation as processes continue to change, with the goal of having draft versions of all prioritized documents completed by year-end.

Required Skills & Experience- Strong technical writing and documentation skills, with experience producing large, structured manuals and procedures.
- Excellent stakeholder interviewing and facilitation skills to extract and translate process knowledge.
- Ability to organize, restructure, and standardize complex documentation sets.
- Experience creating process diagrams and flowcharts (Visio or similar tools).
- Comfortable working in evolving environments with frequent process and tool changes.
Nice-to-Have (Not Required)- Prior experience supporting PMOs or project management organizations.
- Familiarity with knowledge base concepts or document repositories (e.g., SharePoint), though not required initially.
- Utility industry experience is not required and is not considered a prerequisite.
Work Arrangement- Primarily remote, with occasional on-site presence as needed for planning sessions or key stakeholder workshops.
- Preference for a candidate located regionally to allow in-person collaboration when beneficial.
Engagement Details- Initial engagement duration: 1 year.
- Expected to start as a single senior resource, with the potential to add additional documentation support later if scope increases.
