Data Analyst - Finance & Accounting

Project Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Analyst to support Finance and Accounting initiatives by delivering data-driven insights, developing scalable reporting solutions, and performing complex data analyses. The consultant will partner closely with Finance, Accounting, FP&A, and cross-functional stakeholders to improve reporting accuracy, streamline business processes, and enable informed decision-making through high-quality data analysis.

The ideal candidate has strong experience working with large, complex datasets, advanced SQL expertise, and a solid understanding of finance and accounting data, processes, and reporting requirements.

Worksite Location: Remote-based in the US

Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for providing analytical and technical support across a variety of Finance and Accounting initiatives, including but not limited to:

Data Analysis & Reporting

• Analyze large and complex financial and operational datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and actionable business insights.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance recurring and ad hoc reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to support Finance and Accounting stakeholders.
• Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting through data extraction, analysis, and reporting activities.

SQL Development & Data Management

• Write, optimize, and maintain advanced SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze data from multiple enterprise systems and other data sources.
• Create efficient datasets and reporting views to support financial analysis and business intelligence initiatives.
• Partner with data engineering and technology teams to improve data accessibility, performance, and governance.
• Troubleshoot data discrepancies and investigate root causes across multiple source systems.

Finance & Accounting Partnership

• Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, FP&A, Revenue, Tax, and other business partners to understand reporting requirements and translate business needs into analytical solutions.
• Support financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and operational reporting initiatives through data analysis and reporting.
• Assist with identifying opportunities to automate manual reporting processes and improve operational efficiency.
• Participate in system implementations, reporting enhancements, and process improvement initiatives impacting Finance and Accounting.

Process Improvement & AI Automation

• Identify opportunities to streamline reporting workflows through automation and standardized reporting methodologies. Document business requirements, reporting logic, data definitions, and analytical processes.
• Identify opportunities to leverage AI, machine learning, and intelligent automation to improve Finance and Accounting processes, reporting, and data analysis.
• Develop or support AI-enabled solutions that automate repetitive reporting, reconciliations, data validation, anomaly detection, and workflow management.
• Develop and maintain documentation supporting data governance, reporting procedures, and business processes.
• Partner with Finance, IT, and Data Engineering teams to implement scalable automation solutions while maintaining appropriate governance, controls, and data security.
• Recommend best practices for data quality, reporting consistency, and analytical methodologies.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor''''''''s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as a Data Analyst supporting Finance, Accounting, FP&A, or related business functions.
• Experience analyzing large, complex datasets from various sources. Advanced proficiency writing and optimizing complex SQL queries involving multiple tables, joins, common table expressions (CTEs), window functions, and aggregations.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting concepts and accounting data structures.
• Experience working with ERP platforms (Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, Workday, or Microsoft Dynamics) and cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, or Azure Synapse)
• Experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar BI platforms.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis techniques.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively partner with Finance, Accounting, and technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with financial close, revenue accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
• Experience with Python or other scripting languages for data analysis and automation.
• Experience supporting finance transformation, business intelligence, or data governance initiatives.
