Job Purpose

National Grid is implementing a DERMS (Distributed Energy Resource Management System) to improve how customer-owned resources, such as solar generation and energy storage, connect to and support the electric network. DERMS is a new operational platform that requires a significant, multi-year effort to deploy and has many dependencies with existing systems and data sources.

The Data Strategy Workstream Lead is accountable for defining and delivering the end-to-end data strategy for the DERMS Program. This role ensures that data used and generated by DERMS is accurate, governed, secure, migrated successfully, and leveraged through reporting and analytics to support both DERMS platform functionality and operational decision-making. There are long-term objectives to optimize and modernize how DER (Distributed Energy Resource) data is collected, stored, analyzed, and reported. The Workstream Lead will report to DERMS Program Business Leadership and lead a cross-functional team of internal data experts and consultants to achieve data deliverables and enable system deployment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Define and deliver the overall DERMS Data Strategy aligned to the DERMS operating model and platform roadmap.
  • Guide the workstream team in development of Data Strategy artifacts, including Source-to-Target Maps and To-Be Data Flows
  • Establish and maintain DERMS data governance frameworks, including data ownership, stewardship, standards, quality controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Lead the assessment of current-state DERMS data quality across legacy and source systems.
  • Define and execute the DERMS data cleansing strategy, including quality metrics, targets, and validation processes.
  • Oversee the DERMS data migration approach, including extraction, transformation, validation, and reconciliation activities.
  • Ensure data mapping, testing, and migration execution meet business, technical, and audit requirements.
  • Drive broader DER data discussions with other relevant internal stakeholders and monitor external trends to align on a long-term DER data strategy.
  • Coordinate across internal DERMS workstreams, such as Process and Integrations, to manage dependencies.
  • Coordinate with the technology vendor and supporting consultants on Data Strategy Workstream activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of relevant and progressive experience in Data.
