We are seeking a highly experienced Senior PACS & Medical Imaging Cloud Migration Consultant with deep, hands-on expertise in Change Healthcare PACS (Primary Priority) and Merge PACS (Secondary Priority) to lead large-scale PACS modernization and cloud migration initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of medical imaging and healthcare IT experience, with proven leadership in Change Healthcare PACS environments, including migrations, upgrades, consolidations, and enterprise imaging transformations across large hospital systems. Experience with Merge PACS is highly valued, particularly in multi-vendor or transitional environments.
Key Responsibilities (Updated & Prioritized)
PACS Migration & Modernization Leadership
- Lead end-to-end PACS migration initiatives with Change Healthcare PACS as the primary platform
- Support Merge PACS environments during coexistence, consolidation, or phased migrations
- Assess current-state PACS architectures and dependencies
- Define cloud or hybrid migration strategies for:
- Change Healthcare PACS
- Merge PACS (as applicable)
- Lead phased migration of:
- Historical DICOM imaging data
- Active clinical workflows
- Minimize clinical disruption and ensure continuity of care
- Drive PACS pre-planning, readiness assessments, and implementation roadmaps
DICOM & Imaging Data Management
- Execute large-scale DICOM migrations specifically from Change Healthcare PACS systems
- Support data extraction, normalization, and reconciliation from Merge PACS
- Perform:
- DICOM normalization
- Metadata remediation
- Patient, study, and series integrity validation
- Validate migrated images for diagnostic accuracy and clinical usability
- Manage DICOM routing, prefetch rules, and lifecycle workflows
Cloud & Enterprise Imaging Architecture
- Design cloud and hybrid imaging architectures supporting:
- Change Healthcare PACS cloud enablement
- Merge PACS integrations or sunset strategies
- Implement cloud storage using AWS S3, Azure Blob, or Google Cloud Platform
- Support VNA/PACS integrations and DICOMweb APIs (QIDO-RS, WADO-RS, STOW-RS)
- Enable seamless hybrid access between on-prem modalities and cloud platforms
Interoperability & Integration
- Integrate Change Healthcare and Merge PACS with:
- Ensure interoperability using:
- DICOM
- HL7 v2
- IHE profiles (XDS-I)
- Review and validate vendor DICOM conformance statements
- Coordinate with PACS vendors and modality vendors during migrations
Consulting & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a trusted PACS SME, particularly for Change Healthcare PACS
- Advise Radiology, Cardiology, and Enterprise Imaging leadership
- Lead architecture workshops, design reviews, and migration planning sessions
- Produce migration strategies, cutover plans, and operational runbooks
- Support go-live, stabilization, and post-migration optimization
Required Qualifications (Updated)
Experience
- 10+ years in Healthcare IT with a strong focus on PACS
- Extensive hands-on experience with Change Healthcare PACS (REQUIRED / PRIMARY)
- Experience with Merge PACS (STRONGLY PREFERRED / SECONDARY)
- Proven success leading PACS migrations, upgrades, or consolidations
- Experience supporting large hospital systems or IDNs
Technical Skills
- Expert-level DICOM knowledge and troubleshooting
- Hands-on experience with:
- Change Healthcare PACS
- Merge PACS
- Vendor Neutral Archives (VNA)
- Strong understanding of:
- HL7 v2
- IHE profiles
- DICOMweb APIs
- Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
Preferred / Nice-to-Have (Refined)
- Deep experience modernizing Change Healthcare PACS to cloud or hybrid models
- Experience transitioning from Merge PACS to enterprise PACS/VNA platforms
- Multi-site or multi-PACS consolidation projects
- PB-scale imaging data migrations
- Exposure to AI/ML imaging enablement
- Strong client-facing consulting and leadership skills
