Role: UKG Developer
Location: Portland, OR, Hybrid

Hourly Rate: $75-90/hr. DOE
Overview
A local client of ours is seeking a UKG Developer to lead the technical configuration, environment management, and integration support of their UKG Ready and UKG Pro platforms. This position plays a key role in shaping and enhancing HR, payroll, and workforce management processes as part of a larger enterprise transformation effort.
The ideal candidate brings senior-level HRIS and UKG expertise, hands-on system configuration skills, and the ability to partner across HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT to ensure the platform is stable, optimized, and aligned with operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
UKG Platform Development & HRIS Configuration
- Configure and maintain UKG Ready and UKG Pro components, including:
- Payroll structures
- Earnings codes
- Labor distribution rules
- Organizational hierarchies
- Benefits configurations
- Workforce management settings
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of HR and payroll data across the platform.
- Document system configuration, workflows, and data definitions.
- Partner with business stakeholders to align technical configuration with HR, payroll, and compliance requirements.
Environment Management & Release Governance
- Manage sandbox, test, and production UKG environments.
- Coordinate promotion of validated configuration changes into production.
- Implement governance for system changes, release approvals, and documentation standards.
- Support testing cycles including system testing, UAT, and production validation.
Technical HRIS & Payroll Support
- Troubleshoot complex HRIS, payroll, and workforce management issues.
- Support configuration of payroll rules, tax logic, earning codes, accruals, and other core components.
- Resolve data issues affecting downstream systems and maintain compliance with HR/payroll standards.
Integration Development & Enterprise Data Support
- Design, build, and maintain integrations between UKG and external systems such as ERP, CRM, or analytics platforms.
- Support API-based, SFTP/file-based, and batch integration patterns.
- Work closely with integration teams to maintain reliable data flow and troubleshoot failures or inconsistencies.
Data Migration & System Transformation Efforts
- Support HR and payroll data migration activities related to implementations, upgrades, or system transitions.
- Validate mapping, transformation logic, reconciliation processes, and data quality.
Support for UKG Ready UKG Pro Transition
- Provide technical leadership for a potential migration from UKG Ready to UKG Pro.
- Assist with data mapping, configuration alignment, integration updates, planning, and system testing.
- Participate in stabilization and validation activities during transition phases.
Optimization & Vendor Collaboration
- Monitor system performance and recommend configuration or integration improvements.
- Collaborate with UKG support to resolve technical issues or apply system updates/patches.
- Identify opportunities for automation, improved stability, and enhanced data quality.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of HRIS experience supporting enterprise HR and payroll systems.
- 5+ years hands-on experience with UKG Ready and/or UKG Pro.
- Strong experience configuring payroll, HR, and workforce management components.
- Experience managing UKG environments, configuration changes, and release cycles.
- Solid understanding of HRIS and payroll data structures.
- Experience with integrations (APIs, file feeds, interface tools).
- Background supporting system implementations, upgrades, or major transformations.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across configuration, integrations, and data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with UKG Ready UKG Pro migrations.
- Experience integrating UKG with ERP or financial systems.
- Familiarity with enterprise data or analytics platforms.
- Experience supporting large-scale transformation programs.
