Description
We are looking for a SCADA Engineer to lead the engineering, performance, and long-term reliability of real-time control systems that support distributed energy and microgrid operations in Houston, Texas. This position blends hands-on technical execution with system-level ownership, giving you the opportunity to shape scalable architectures, strengthen operational visibility, and support critical grid-connected assets. The ideal candidate brings deep experience with SCADA platforms, field integrations, and utility telemetry, along with the ability to guide standards and technical decisions across a growing fleet.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and ongoing improvement of SCADA architecture for distributed generation and microgrid assets, ensuring the environment can support expansion without sacrificing reliability.
Manage the configuration, administration, and optimization of real-time operational systems in partnership with operations, IT, and engineering teams to improve system performance and data accessibility.
Act as the senior technical resource for SCADA platforms and connected control environments, providing design direction, resolving escalated issues, and helping set engineering priorities.
Define and maintain standards for telemetry mapping, tag hierarchy, alarm strategy, and data quality to promote consistency across sites and systems.
Support around-the-clock control center operations by helping maintain stable system availability and responding to complex technical issues affecting monitoring or control functions.
Direct utility and market integrations by designing secure data exchanges and telemetry frameworks that align with grid participation and compliance needs.
Oversee the engineering and commissioning of new site connections, including review of control drawings, point structures, HMI layouts, historian configuration, and controller programming.
Partner with infrastructure and operations teams to strengthen cybersecurity, harden system connectivity, and maintain readiness for high-impact grid events.
Drive automation, tooling, database improvements, and governed deployment practices, including support for upgrades and technology changes within the SCADA environment.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
At least 7 years of SCADA engineering experience in power, energy, utility, or similar industrial environments.
Minimum 5 years of direct experience supporting real-time operational systems with high availability requirements.
Proven background in SCADA integration work involving utilities, ISOs, RTOs, or other external grid participants.
Hands-on familiarity with PLC controls, HMI development, and electrical or control schematics.
Experience with Autosol SCADA or another utility-grade SCADA platform used in critical operations.
Strong understanding of telemetry design, dispatch or grid support operations, and infrastructure components such as Windows servers, networking, virtualization, cybersecurity, and relational databases.
Experience supporting distributed energy resources, microgrids, power generation assets, or similar field-based energy systems.
