Controls Engineer 2
Location: Mossville, IL
Schedule: First Shift, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Work Arrangement: Onsite, 5 Days Per Week
Travel: Up to 25% Domestic Travel

We are seeking a Controls Engineer 2 to join a highly collaborative engineering team focused on advanced electrification, power conversion systems, and microgrid technologies. This position offers the opportunity to work across the full product development lifecycle while supporting system-level validation activities that directly impact new product launches.

This role is heavily focused on validation, testing, troubleshooting, and requirements management. The engineer will work closely with software, controls, electrical, quality, cybersecurity, and product support teams to ensure system functionality, performance, safety, and customer requirements are fully validated.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Develop and maintain system validation plans aligned with major program milestones.
  • Define validation scope, test strategies, test procedures, and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate laboratory, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), integration, endurance, and field validation activities.
  • Support validation efforts for software releases, firmware updates, network communications, HMI functionality, and control algorithms.
  • Track validation progress and ensure timely execution of testing activities.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot system issues, partnering with software and engineering teams to drive root-cause resolution.
  • Support system integration and validation throughout development and product launch activities.
  • Coordinate cross-functional validation efforts across software, controls, electrical, telematics, cybersecurity, quality, and product support teams.
  • Communicate project risks, validation status, and technical recommendations to leadership.
  • Provide guidance on validation methodologies, test execution, and troubleshooting best practices.
  • Manage testing activities and support successful product release and gateway milestones.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2-4 years of engineering experience.
  • Internship experience is accepted.
  • Strong electrical engineering background.
  • Experience with Vector tools such as CANape and CANalyzer.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Background in system validation, testing, troubleshooting, or verification activities.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication abilities.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently within a team environment.
Preferred Experience
  • Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
  • DSpace experience.
  • Oscilloscope and data acquisition experience.
  • Data logger experience.
  • Battery systems, power electronics, electrification, or power conversion systems.
  • Embedded software development or embedded software validation.
  • Requirements development and test plan creation.
  • Project planning and prioritization.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
