Location: Onsite in Merritt Island, FL

Prescreen Questions

1. Have you drilled a close tolerance hole ? If so what was the tolerance?
2. What is the decimal equivalent to a #30 drill bit?
3. What are you checking when inspecting a hole to be within tolerance?
4. What fasteners do you have experience in installing?
5. Have you used a Powerfeed drill or Quackenbush?
6. Do you have experience operating a scissor lift or boom lift?
7. Can you climb ladders?
8. Can you lift 50lbs. ?
9. Are you ok with heights?
10.Are you able to read/interpret engineering blue prints? If so how would you rank yourself from 1-10?

Key Responsibilities:
  • Configure new production work areas with the necessary tooling and equipment to ensure efficient workflow and minimize any potential delays during the transition to high-rate manufacturing.
  1. Operate precision calibrated tools (torque wrenches, micrometers, etc.) to maintain high safety and quality standards.
  1. Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for safety and efficiency, enhancing overall productivity.
  1. Drilling precision holes to tight tolerance.
  1. Installing structural fasteners.
  1. Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S principles to promote safety and operational efficiency.
  1. Tasks involve preparing and testing payload systems and hardware by applying materials, conducting painting, sealing, composite layup, repairs, testing, and assisting with vehicle assembly and installation.


Team Focus & Domain Expertise:

The structures team at Blue Origin is essential in enhancing the efficiency and large aerospace structures through advanced drilling and assembly techniques. As a technician on this team, you will be involved in precise drilling and assembly using both manual and power feed drills and specialize large-scale structural assembly. Your expertise will include working with both metallic and composite materials, performing detailed processes like drilling, deburring, and assembling large components. Additionally, you will be responsible for surface preparation, fixturing components, and the alignment of structural parts, ensuring they meet stringent specifications. Your role will involve maintaining fabrication methods and specification requirements to maintain high-quality construction using various materials and techniques.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, structures and other related field.
  1. Familiarity with one or more of the following: Basic use of hand tools & Drills
  1. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately.
  1. Experience with precision calibration tools including torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, laser tracker, and optical measuring instruments.
  1. Ability to lift 50lbs and comfortable working at heights (work stands, ladders, lifts) and/or in confined spaces.
  1. Expertise in various applications, including adhesives, sealants, and thermal blankets.
  1. Proficiency in digital tools, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industry certification, trade school training and/or degree in related field.
  1. Knowledge of precision assembly processes and handling large aerospace components.
  1. Strong technical and leadership skills with a keen attention to detail, essential for leading teams in complex integration tasks.
  1. Effective communication and collaboration skills in teams to foster a positive work environment.
  1. Continuous improvement mindset and curiosity for optimizing processes, driving innovation.
  1. Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification.
  1. Willingness to work overtime.
