OVERVIEW ... This role is for a Data Center Operations Lead / Manager who keeps the main data center (in Lithia Springs) and remote facilities running efficiently, securely, and without downtime.
Here is a straightforward breakdown of what the job entails:
Core Responsibilities
- Day-to-Day Data Center Management: Oversee operations using ITIL standards (Incident, Problem, and Change Management). Serve as the main technical point of contact and escalation point during outages or emergencies.
- Hardware & Device Lifecycle: Handle hands-on setup and decommissioning of servers/devices—configuring basic settings, assigning IPs, updating DNS, and verifying network connectivity.
- Facilities & Environmental Oversight: Monitor power, cooling, and space inside the data centers using DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) tools. Set policies to manage environmental conditions.
- Performance Tracking & Strategy: Collect metrics, analyze operational risks, report trends to leadership, and plan infrastructure updates so the facilities can scale for future growth.
- Team Leadership & Projects: Lead data center projects, update standard operating procedures (SOPs), and train/mentor junior staff across both IT and facilities teams.
Key Technical & Functional Skills
- Hardware & Systems: Strong hands-on knowledge of servers, rack setups, server OS (Windows, Linux), and network cabling.
- Networking: Deep understanding of networking hardware (Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers), protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, DHCP), and topologies (VLANs, VPNs, MPLS).
- Monitoring Tools: Experience with platforms like SolarWinds, Nagios, Palo Alto Panorama, Live Action, or A10.
- Methodologies: Solid grounding in ITIL frameworks and IT service management.
- Flexibility: Willingness to support scheduled off-hours maintenance and travel to remote sites when needed.
