Our organization, a leading player in the construction industry, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Controller. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where your contributions will have a direct impact on the financial health and success of our company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management and analysis, with a specific focus on the construction industry, particularly in HVAC and plumbing.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee the job costing process, ensuring accurate and timely cost information.
  • Prepare and manage the company's budget and forecasts, identifying and analyzing variances.
  • Conduct variance analysis to understand the cause of differences between budgeted and actual results.
  • Manage the billing process to ensure timely and accurate invoicing.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow, making recommendations for improving financial performance.
  • Prepare aging reports to monitor the status of accounts receivable and payable.
  • Oversee inventory accounting, ensuring accurate tracking and valuation of materials.
  • Use Sage Intacct to manage financial data and generate reports.
  • Monitor labor trends in the HVAC MEP industry and make recommendations for cost savings.
  • Prepare for and assist with the year-end close process, including the preparation of year-end financial statements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Advanced degree or certification (CPA, CMA, etc.) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role, with specific experience in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, particularly as they apply to the construction industry.
  • Experience with financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, job costing, and billing.
  • Knowledge of the HVAC and plumbing industry, including labor trends and job costing.
  • Proficiency in Sage Intacct or similar accounting software.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to a non-financial audience.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, with a focus on accuracy and quality in work.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
