Description Work Mix: ~80-90% lab / ~10-20% field
Overview
We're seeking a hands-on Wireless Lab Test Engineer III to support device, stack, and protocol testing across Wi-Fi and 4G/5G. This role is lab-heavy and centers on call flow analysis (RRC/NAS/IMS), log collection/triage, test reporting, and KPI evaluation. You'll work with iOS and Android devices, capture/analyze traces with industry tools, and clearly communicate defects and insights to cross-functional partners (including OEMs/chipset teams as needed).
What You'll Do
- Create, execute, and maintain manual-first test cases for Wi-Fi + LTE/5G device and protocol behavior; contribute to automation over time.
- Validate 4G/LTE and 5G (SA/NSA; mmWave exposure a plus) protocol stack behavior, including call/message flows.
- Perform device/stack/protocol testing on iOS and Android devices in a lab environment; support light field testing as needed.
- Capture and analyze logs/traces (e.g., QXDM/QCAT, XCAL/XCAP) and summarize findings with clear, concise defect narratives.
- Evaluate and report test KPIs; produce test reports that are accurate, reproducible, and stakeholder-friendly.
- Triage issues: isolate root cause indicators at the signaling level and communicate findings to internal teams and external partners (OEMs/chipset makers).
- Manage day-to-day lab activities, configurations, devices, and network simulator setups (e.g., Keysight UXM).
- Collaborate with test engineers and product/engineering partners; operate with ownership and minimal hand-holding.
Requirements Required Qualifications
- 5+ years in wireless device/protocol testing (lab and field).
- Strong understanding of wireless technologies: Wi-Fi, 4G/LTE, 5G (SA/NSA; mmWave exposure a plus).
- Solid grasp of network architecture & protocols including VoLTE, VoWiFi, RCS/SMS/MMS.
- Demonstrated experience with call/message flows over RRC and NAS; IMS signaling exposure is highly relevant.
- 2+ years hands-on testing with iOS and Android devices, including log collection and triage.
- 2+ years with device logging/analysis tools: QXDM/QCAT, XCAL/XCAP (or similar).
- 2+ years with Keysight UXM or other network simulator boxes (Anritsu, Rohde & Schwarz, etc.).
- Strong communicator and storyteller of device issues from lab/field, able to articulate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Onsite availability in Philadelphia, 5 days/week.
Nice to Have
- Experience with additional simulation tools and lab instrumentation.
- Exposure to automation for regression or protocol validation (you don't need to be a pure SDET).
- Wireless/testing-related certifications.
- Prior experience in carrier, OEM, chipset, or test-equipment environments.
