Senior Oracle HCM Cloud Functional Architect | Full-Time with the client

Location: San Francisco, CA | One day per week onsite required

We are partnering with a leading academic medical center and public university system in the San Francisco Bay Area to identify a seasoned Oracle HCM Cloud Functional Architect to serve as the Functional Design Authority for a complex, enterprise-wide HR technology ecosystem.

About the Role

This is a senior, highly independent role. You will shape strategy, influence design decisions, and ensure the long-term sustainability of Oracle HCM Cloud across a large, mission-driven organization serving both healthcare and higher education populations.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Oracle HCM Cloud expert with the judgment, confidence, and experience to operate as a trusted design authority across HR domains. They are comfortable working independently, navigating ambiguity, and advising HR leaders on how best to leverage Oracle Cloud capabilities. We are looking for candidates who have transitioned from implementation into long-term operational ownership not just those with hypercare or short-term stabilization experience. Experience working embedded with a client organization on the operations side is strongly valued.

Core Expertise

Oracle HCM Cloud Primary Qualification

  • Expert-level functional knowledge across Oracle HCM Cloud (Core HR, Recruiting/ORC, Compensation, Absence, Talent)
  • Strong judgment around configuration vs. customization, security, data model, and integration patterns
  • Experience operating and optimizing Oracle HCM Cloud post-go-live, including quarterly releases and regression impacts

HR Domain Fluency

  • Solid understanding of HR business processes (talent acquisition, workforce lifecycle, compensation, performance)
  • Ability to assess cross-module and downstream impacts of functional design decisions

Independent Partnership and Influence

  • Operates autonomously with minimal direction
  • Builds credibility as a trusted advisor, not an order-taker
  • Engages stakeholders early, frames options, and influences decisions

Hands-On Configuration, Data and Diagnostics

  • Deep, hands-on experience configuring Oracle HCM Cloud (Core HR, ORC, Compensation, Absence, Talent)
  • Comfortable working directly in the system to validate setups, prototype solutions, and troubleshoot issues
  • Uses data and SQL to validate outcomes and diagnose functional issues across integrations

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the functional design authority for Oracle HCM Cloud, providing hands-on configuration, optimization, documentation, and integration guidance across implementation and ongoing operations.
  • Translate HR business needs into sustainable Oracle HCM Cloud solutions, evaluating options, tradeoffs, and long-term impacts across modules and integrations.
  • Engage directly in the system to validate configurations, troubleshoot functional issues, and support reporting and change analysis.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to HR, shaping technology decisions and guiding initiatives rather than executing requirements at face value.
  • Operate independently with minimal direction, proactively identifying risks, dependencies, and opportunities and engaging stakeholders early.
  • Maintain functional ownership of a portfolio of HR applications, ensuring clear system-of-record boundaries and integration alignment.

Preferred Experience

PeopleSoft Payroll and Benefits continue to be hosted on PeopleSoft. Candidates who can navigate both platforms and understand the two-way integration between Oracle HCM Cloud and PeopleSoft will be at a significant advantage.

Healthcare and/or Higher Education Experience working in Healthcare and/or Higher Education is a plus. Recruiting, onboarding, and workforce management in academic medical and higher education settings operate very differently from standard corporate environments with unique compliance requirements, credentialing workflows, faculty and clinical hiring nuances, and multi-entity organizational structures. Candidates with this background will have a meaningful head start.
