The Software Development Engineer - SRE, Retail and Pharmacy is responsible for maintaining, supporting, and improving the organization's software applications and platforms. This role provides technical expertise across application testing, deployment, configuration, monitoring, and issue resolution. The analyst ensures stable and reliable application performance, supports production operations, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives. The position also incorporates foundational Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices focused on monitoring, alerting, and system health.

What You Will Do

Application Support & Troubleshooting
  • Provide technical support for enterprise applications, ensuring smooth daily operations and timely resolution of functional or technical issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve application incidents reported by end-users, including system errors, data issues, and integration failures.
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, database, and vendor teams to implement fixes, mitigation strategies, and permanent solutions.

Monitoring, Alerts, & SRE Functions
  • Manage and enhance application monitoring dashboards, alerts, and health checks.
  • Analyze alert noise and participate in alert tuning to improve signal-to-noise ratio.
  • Perform routine system health checks, environment validations, and log reviews to proactively identify issues.
  • Participate in on-call rotations (if applicable) to support incident response and ensure application availability.
  • Contribute to establishing and improving SLOs/SLIs and performance baselines.

Maintenance, Upgrades, & Operational Excellence
  • Assist with planned maintenance activities such as patching, upgrades, and data cleanup tasks.
  • Participate in release planning, deployment activities, and post-deployment validation.
  • Engage in discussions on enhancements, bug fixes, and new releases and coordinate across teams to ensure successful delivery.

Documentation, Training, & Knowledge Sharing
  • Create and maintain knowledge base articles, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and runbooks for common workflows and incidents.
  • Provide training, guidance, and best-practice recommendations to end-users and team members.
  • Support compliance and audit activities, including documentation and evidence collection.

Continuous Improvement & User Engagement
  • Analyze support trends and user feedback to identify opportunities for usability, performance, and reliability improvements.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to recommend enhancements and drive optimization initiatives.
  • Respond to requests from internal and approved external partners in a timely and professional manner.

Minimum Requirements
  • 3-5 years of experience in application support, technical support, or a related IT role.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Self-directed, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ServiceNow or other ITSM platforms.
  • ITIL 4 Foundation certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Azure Monitor, CloudWatch, etc.) is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of SRE principles (incident management, alerting, SLIs/SLOs, observability).
  • Experience with SQL, log analysis, or scripting (PowerShell, Python, etc.) is beneficial.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent technical training or relevant professional experience.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$72,100.00 - $144,200.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
