Summary

About Us:

At Parafin, we're on a mission to grow small businesses.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, but traditional banks often don't have their backs. We build tech that makes it simple for small businesses to access the financial tools they need through the platforms they already sell on.

We partner with companies like DoorDash, Amazon, Worldpay, and Mindbody to offer fast and flexible funding, spend management, and savings tools to their small business users via a simple integration. Parafin takes on all the complexity of capital markets, underwriting, servicing, compliance, and customer service for our partners.

We're a tight-knit team of innovators hailing from Stripe, Square, Plaid, Coinbase, Robinhood, CERN, and more - all united by a passion for building tools that help small businesses succeed. Parafin is backed by prominent venture capitalists including GIC, Notable Capital, Redpoint Ventures, Ribbit Capital, and Thrive Capital. Parafin is a Series C company, and we have raised more than $194M in equity and $340M in debt facilities.

Join us in creating a future where every small business has the financial tools they need.

About the Position:

We are looking for an experienced user-focused backend software engineer to join our Partner Platform team in San Francisco. In this Staff role, you will shape the technical direction of partner-facing experiences and deliver high-leverage systems that improve how partners build with Parafin.

The Partner Platform team owns the foundational systems that power partner integrations at Parafin. We build and operate partner data ingestion pipelines, DAG-based processing systems, public APIs, durable webhook delivery infrastructure, sandbox environments, and partner-specific integrations.

We collaborate across engineering and data teams to ensure partner data reliably powers underwriting, risk evaluation, and reporting workflows. Our roadmap includes major platform modernization efforts, including evolving our data architecture and strengthening the reliability and scalability of our asynchronous, event-driven systems.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, combines strong technical fundamentals with pragmatic judgment, and can lead ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives from strategy through execution.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Lead the technical design and evolution of key components of our partner platform infrastructure, including partner data ingestion and sharing systems, public APIs, and durable webhook delivery systems.
  • Drive end-to-end initiatives that improve the partner journey, from developer tooling and dashboards to the underlying platform systems that power ingestion, APIs, and real-time partner updates.
  • Set direction through technical vision, RFCs, and architecture reviews, aligning stakeholders across engineering, data, and product on priorities and tradeoffs.
  • Design and operate asynchronous, event-driven systems to reliably process partner data and deliver real-time updates to partner systems.
  • Raise the bar for engineering quality through mentoring, code review, and improving team processes, reliability practices, and on-call health.

What We're Searching For:
  • 8+ years of experience building and operating production backend or platform systems.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science (or related field)
  • You care deeply about building high-quality software and take immense pride in your craft.
  • You have experience leading ambiguous, cross-functional projects and can make sound tradeoffs across reliability, scalability, developer experience, and time to value.
  • You are comfortable owning and driving the development of both product and platform initiatives from scratch.
  • You take the initiative to identify commonalities between different problem statements and design appropriate abstractions accordingly.
  • You have a strong grasp of engineering fundamentals.
  • You have experience building and operating asynchronous systems or data pipelines in production environments.
  • You are excited about working on a small team and helping us set the foundations for the company.

What We Offer:
  • Salary Range: $285k - $330k +
  • Equity grant
  • Medical, dental & vision insurance
  • Work from home flexibility
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Commuter benefits
  • Free lunches
  • Paid parental leave
  • 401(k)
  • Employee assistance program
