Role Overview
We are seeking a Business Analyst to support the full system development life cycle by documenting and validating business and system requirements for web-based applications. This role partners with business stakeholders and IT teams in Agile/Scrum environments to ensure requirements are clearly defined, SDLC-compliant, and aligned with business objectives. This position also supports application testing, defect tracking, and user acceptance testing to ensure high-quality solutions that meet documented requirements. The work schedule is hybrid, requiring four days on-site and one day remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct project initiation activities to identify new problems and objectives related to computer applications.
- Lead requirements elicitation and documentation for new applications or enhancements to current applications.
- Work with business and Information Systems staff to produce an SDLC-compliant Requirements Definition document.
- Ensure documented requirements are clear, concise, complete, and meet established guidelines and standards.
- Assist with the development of applicable processes and templates to ensure documentation is in a standard, repeatable format.
- Attend application design and development scrum meetings to represent business needs and requirements.
- Write and execute system test plans to verify the system meets all documented requirements.
- Perform manual testing on web applications and verify the successful completion of test plans.
- Document bugs and application insufficiencies with sufficient information for developers to reproduce and correct issues.
- Assist with the development of user testing scripts for User Acceptance Testing.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in business and systems analysis, requirements documentation, system development life cycle, and agile application development methodologies such as Scrum.
- Extensive experience defining and documenting user requirements from multiple sources.
- Extensive experience supporting application development, maintenance, and implementation, as well as systems analysis and design.
- Extensive experience defining and documenting business processes and mapping or developing processes in a new system.
- Experience manually performing testing on a web application.
- Considerable experience in testing complex systems to determine that business needs are met.
- Ability to write and execute test plans and scripts according to identified standards.
- Experience conducting meetings and documenting project decisions.
- Ability to identify and document bugs or insufficiencies in a web application.
- Ability to successfully participate in a development team, help foster a team environment, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with web application software development projects using .Net.
- Familiarity with documenting requirements in Microsoft Team Foundation Server.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role requiring four days of work on-site in Richmond, VA, and one day of remote work. Candidates must be located in Virginia, preferably within Richmond or surrounding areas. Occasional in-person meetings may be required on scheduled remote days. Parking is not provided. Equipment will be assigned on the first day, which must be in person.
