Overview
Our MSP client is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer to serve as the primary Linux expert supporting a key healthcare client. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys owning systems end-to-end, working closely with stakeholders, and solving complex infrastructure and application challenges.
You will be the sole Linux Engineer, responsible for maintaining and improving a production environment built primarily on Ubuntu, virtualization (KVM/QEMU), MySQL, and custom automation written in PHP and Python.

You will be the sole Linux Engineer, responsible for maintaining and improving a production environment built primarily on Ubuntu, virtualization (KVM/QEMU), MySQL, and custom automation written in PHP and Python.
- Support, maintain, and optimize Ubuntu-based Linux systems in a production healthcare environment
- Manage and administer virtualized infrastructure using KVM/QEMU
- Administer, monitor, and tune MySQL databases for performance, availability, and reliability
- Develop and maintain automation, scripts, and internal tooling using PHP and/or Python
- Troubleshoot system, application, and database issues across the stack
- Ensure system stability, security, and operational best practices
- Work directly with internal teams and a healthcare client to support ongoing operational needs
- Strong hands-on experience administering Ubuntu/Linux systems
- Practical experience supporting KVM/QEMU virtualization
- Solid MySQL administration skills (performance, backups, troubleshooting)
- Ability to script and automate using PHP and/or Python
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset
- Monitoring Tools & backup technologies, security hardening
- Comfortable working independently and owning Linux infrastructure
- Backup and disaster recovery strategies
- Networking fundamentals (DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls)
- CI/CD pipelines or DevOps tooling
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
