DB2 and Snowflake and looking for this person to help with performance fine-tuning of large database operations we have across 20+ applications. The expectation is for this person should be local DBA and DB2 & Snowflake expert for rest of the developers globally. Snowflake preferred but not essential
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Oracle DBA with strong expertise in multi-database environments including Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, DB2, and Snowflake. This role will focus heavily on performance tuning, database optimization, and large-scale operations across 20+ applications.
The ideal candidate will act as a local database expert, supporting global development teams and driving database performance, scalability, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Management
- Manage end-to-end administration of Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server environments
- Perform installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and migrations across on-prem and AWS cloud
- Ensure high availability, security, and performance optimization
Performance Tuning & Optimization
- Diagnose and resolve complex performance issues (SQL tuning, indexing, execution plans)
- Optimize large-scale OLTP & OLAP workloads
- Support performance tuning for DB2 and Snowflake environments (Snowflake preferred)
Cloud & AWS Management
- Manage AWS RDS (Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) environments
- Support Aurora (PostgreSQL/SQL Server) deployments
- Utilize AWS services such as CloudWatch, Lambda, IAM, KMS, and CloudFormation/Terraform
- Lead cloud migrations including schema conversion and data migration
Backup, Recovery & Monitoring
- Implement backup and recovery strategies using:
- RMAN
- pgBackRest
- Native SQL Server tools
- AWS Backup
- Perform proactive monitoring and capacity planning using AWR, OEM, pg_stat, DMVs
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Design and maintain HA/DR solutions:
- Oracle Data Guard / RAC
- SQL Server Always On
- PostgreSQL replication
- AWS Multi-AZ
- Develop and test DR and failover procedures
Security & Compliance
- Implement database security (roles, access control, auditing, encryption)
- Ensure compliance with corporate and industry standards
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and remediation
Automation & Scripting
- Automate DBA tasks using Python, Shell, PowerShell, PL/SQL
- Develop scripts for maintenance, monitoring, and alerting
Production Support & Collaboration
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Participate in 24x7 on-call support rotation
- Collaborate with DevOps, engineering, and application teams
Leadership & Documentation
- Lead modernization initiatives and database upgrades
- Mentor junior DBAs and engineers
- Maintain detailed documentation of systems, standards, and procedures
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience as a Senior DBA
- Strong expertise in:
- Oracle
- PostgreSQL
- SQL Server (working knowledge)
- Experience with DB2 and Snowflake (Snowflake preferred)
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud platforms
- Strong skills in performance tuning and large database environments
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting global teams
- Exposure to cross-platform database migrations
- Prior experience in large enterprise environments (20+ applications)
