Description:
Electrical Practice Lead

Location: Braintree, MA

Duration: Fulltime Permanent

Pay: 190K -$220K

Overall Responsibility
  • Responsible for providing design expertise, team oversight, leadership and mentorship for engineers and designers.
  • Supports the marketing team to identify new pursuits, teaming partners and opportunities for new work.
  • Ability to respond to technical RFP's, develop fee proposals and provide technical writing.
  • Coordinates effectively with project stakeholders, teaming partners, scheduling, and resourcing of the right staff to meet project needs.
  • Responsible for design oversight and technical quality of work produced, maintaining a high-level standard of quality meeting corporate expectations.
  • Builds a positive and supportive work environment for employees.


Essential Functions

Technical & Design Leadership
  1. Provides technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team as the Practice Subject Matter Expert for electrical power and lighting design.
  2. Delegates the responsible Engineer of Record for projects and, when required, acts as the Engineer of Record to sign and seal documents as applicable.
  3. Establishes standards for Quality Assurance throughout the design process and oversees/contributes to Quality Control reviews at project milestones.

People & Culture
  1. Manages and mentors a team of electrical engineers and designers to ensure they are motivated, productive, and aligned with company goals.
  2. Creates high morale among employees.
  3. Assists with recruiting and hiring new staff to join the team.
  4. Reviews and evaluates performance of direct and indirect reports; oversees staff utilization, skills matrix, and appropriate staff allocation.

Process, Performance & Accountability
  1. Identifies areas for process improvement and implements changes to increase efficiency and productivity.
  2. Ensures accountability of staff within the Electrical Practice and reports to the SVP of Planning and Design.
  3. Monitors performance metrics and best practices.

Collaboration & Business Development
  1. Collaborates with Project Managers and other Practice Leads to ensure projects are properly staffed for success.
  2. Assists with development of fee/scope of service proposals, presentations, interviews, and pursuit of future projects.
  3. Builds relationships with existing and potential clients.

Travel & Other Duties
  1. Capable of traveling to project and client sites for presentations, interviews, design, and coordination meetings.
  2. Performs other essential duties required to fulfill the role in support of company goals and pursuits.


Needed Skills
  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Willingness to build professional relationships with staff and clients.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Bluebeam, MS Office Suite, SharePoint, Newforma, and Vision.
  • Advanced knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations including BICSI, NEC, NFPA, and ICC Codes.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize while being detailed and safety oriented.
  • Excellent communication, motivational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of project management concepts including scheduling, resourcing, budgets, and work breakdown structures.


Education & Experience Minimum
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
  • Minimum fifteen years' experience in a technical capacity reflecting increasing responsibility.
  • Demonstrated technical strengths across multiple knowledge areas related to the Practice.
  • Strong understanding of the physical and functional requirements of systems related to the Practice, sufficient to direct design teams.
