Job Description:

JOB TITLE: CAD Technician & Automation Specialist

DURATION: 12 MONTHS

LOCATION: ONSITE IN DETROIT MI

PAY RATE: $27 - $37 HOURLY

Job Description:

This individual will be responsible for creating detailed drawings of material handling equipment, work areas, and material handling components based on current examples as well as design support for future initiatives. Drawings will require a high level of detail in both plan views as well as corresponding elevation views in certain cases. Additionally, this role will develop and maintain automation scripts to standardize drawing processes, build reusable templates and libraries, and reduce manual work across repetitive tasks. A successful candidate will be a self-starter and will be able to work with very little direction to create drawing sets that will satisfy the need to standardize workspaces and designs across a large network of fulfillment operations.

Basic Qualifications:

5+ years of CAD experience (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or similar) with advanced layer management skills

Associate's degree in Drafting, Design, or related technical field

1+ year experience creating drawings for warehouse/fulfillment environments

Working knowledge of material handling and storage systems

Demonstrated experience with CAD automation (scripts, macros, plugins, or APIs such as AutoLISP, Python, Dynamo, etc.)

Ability to identify repetitive tasks and implement automated solutions

Preferred Qualifications:

Conveyor design and layout experience

Mechanical or Industrial Engineering degree

Ability to communicate to various audiences

Ability to lead small groups

Experience with scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, VBA) for workflow automation (or other programming languages)

Familiarity with AI-assisted design tools or workflows

Experience with version control systems (Git) and automation frameworks

SQL experience for data querying and analysis

Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) for automation deployment

Clash Detection Experience overlaying conceptual designs with as-built systems
