Description:
Full Stack Mid-Level Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid (Local candidates only - 3 days onsite per week)
About the Team

Our Engineering and Data Science Field Automation Engineering team is a group of innovators passionate about building the systems that power the farm of the future. We are reimagining and rebuilding our entire suite of field technologies for digital agriculture-systems that are geospatial, automated, and data-driven. In this environment, every plant matters. Our engineers collaborate closely with agronomists, breeders, scientists, and technologists to deliver solutions that transform how customers experience agricultural innovation.

As a Software Engineer on this team, you will help design, build, and scale custom software platforms that support R&D's global fleet of field test equipment. These connected, cloud-based systems interface with users, data assets, and analytics models to provide instructions to automated equipment and process high-volume telemetry data. You will have hands-on ownership of software architecture, design, and development, enabling a new generation of data and human connectivity across electromechanical automation platforms.
What You'll Do
  • Work in an Agile development environment to design, build, and support cloud-based applications
  • Collaborate with technical leads and business stakeholders to manage priorities, timelines, and deliverables
  • Translate business requirements into scalable application features through direct customer interaction
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy full stack solutions across multiple environments
  • Conduct functional and non-functional testing to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize applications in production and non-production environments
  • Champion code quality through unit testing, integration testing, and peer code reviews
  • Evaluate and refactor existing applications while adding new features and capabilities
  • Create and maintain technical documentation that accurately reflects system design and code
  • Follow established and modern data security and cloud security best practices
  • Participate in selecting and evaluating new tools, platforms, and technologies
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 4+ years of experience developing REST APIs using modern languages and frameworks (TypeScript, JavaScript, or similar)
  • 4+ years of experience developing single-page and multi-page web applications
  • 2+ years of experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases and data abstraction tools
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in the AWS ecosystem, including services such as Lambda, ECS, EC2, S3, IAM, and RDS
  • Practical experience designing and architecting cloud-based software systems
  • Strong understanding of software development best practices and design principles
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to drive solutions independently
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and work effectively in evolving environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Successful completion of technical screenings (online and/or in-person)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing IoT solutions or large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience working with event-driven and asynchronous architectures (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Familiarity with systems that process high volumes of geospatial or telemetry data
