Job Overview:
Client is seeking an Engineering Technician C to support advanced photonics and precision assembly operations in Chantilly, VA. This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on technical experience in electronics, mechanical assembly, optics, machining, laboratory operations, or manufacturing environments. Candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and experience interpreting engineering drawings and technical procedures are encouraged to apply.
Photonics experience is preferred but not required. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided for candidates with transferable technical skills and strong attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform fabrication, assembly, integration, testing, and inspection of precision components and photonic systems
Execute optical fiber splicing, recoating, mechanical assembly, soldering, microscopy, and profilometry activities
Operate machining tools and equipment including lathes, mills, CNC machines, and other precision shop equipment
Integrate and test commercial optical equipment including power meters, laser sources, and monitoring systems
Read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical work instructions
Assist with calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting activities
Maintain cleanroom/lab standards, equipment reliability, and workspace organization
Support engineering and manufacturing teams to meet quality, schedule, and performance expectations
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma with 6+ years of relevant experience OR Associate Degree with 2+ years of related experience
Active TS/SCI Clearance with CI Polygraph (Mandatory)
Experience working in lab, manufacturing, DoD workshop, electronics, optical, or machining environments
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
Hands-on experience with precision assembly and technical equipment
Preferred Skills:
Photonics or fiber optics experience
Machine shop or CNC machining experience
Experience with soldering, optical alignment, or precision inspection tools
Familiarity with DoD engineering or laboratory environments
