Summary

IBMi (AS/400) Systems Engineer / Administrator

Location: Greenwood Village, CO
Contract: 6-month contract (ability to extend)
Pay Rate: $50-$65/hour
We are seeking an experienced IBMi (AS/400) Systems Engineer / Administrator to support a mission-critical enterprise platform within a complex infrastructure environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical expert who thrives in a fast-paced setting and can ensure system reliability, performance, and security with minimal oversight.
This position begins with an intensive, onsite training period in Greenwood Village, CO to ramp up in the environment. After completing training, the role transitions to primarily remote work, with the expectation to be onsite as needed based on business or project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

IBMi System Administration

  • Monitor and maintain IBMi (OS/400, i5/OS) systems to ensure high availability and performance
  • Perform system health checks, job monitoring, subsystem management, and message handling
  • Apply PTFs, firmware updates, and operating system upgrades
  • Manage user profiles, access controls, and system configurations

Hardware, Virtualization & Storage

  • Support IBM Power Systems hardware environments
  • Administer virtualization using PowerVM / VIOS (LPAR configuration and monitoring)
  • Manage and support enterprise storage environments (SAN/NAS, IBM Power storage)

System Support & Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and resolve system, OS, and hardware-related issues
  • Analyze logs, job failures, and performance metrics to identify root causes
  • Collaborate with vendors (including IBM) for escalations and maintenance activities

Backup, Recovery & Operations

  • Execute backup and recovery operations using tools like BRMS, Cohesity, or TSM
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity initiatives

On-Call Support

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support after-hours and weekend operations

Required Skills & Expertise

  • 3-5 years of experience with IBMi / AS400 / iSeries administration
  • IBM Power Systems hardware
  • PowerVM (LPAR configuration and support)
  • Storage systems (SAN/NAS)
  • IBMi security and system configuration
  • Backup tools (BRMS, TSM, or Cohesity)
  • HA/DR solutions (PowerHA, MIMIX, Robot HA)
  • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, FTP, ODBC)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with IBMi automation tools (e.g., Robot Schedule, HelpSystems)
  • Exposure to enterprise storage environments
  • Familiarity with applications such as Advanced Commercial Banking Systems (ACBS)

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma required (no college degree required)
