Maintenance Engineer

Location: Onsite
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
About the Role

Join a long-standing manufacturing organization specializing in tubular components and welded assemblies. This position offers competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and long-term stability within a hands-on, team-oriented production environment.

Under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Controls / Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining plant buildings, grounds, and production equipment, with a strong emphasis on electrical controls, PLC systems, and automation. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to support complex manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance and repair of plant facilities, machinery, and production equipment
  • Install, rebuild, and maintain equipment controls, including PCs, PLCs, and custom controllers
  • Program, troubleshoot, and debug electronic control circuits for specialty manufacturing equipment
  • Support and maintain control systems including:
    • Servos, encoders, relays, sensors, switches, light curtains, optical readers, and power supplies
  • Interpret, write, and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic and related control circuits
  • Diagnose and repair PC-based control systems, including operating systems, network interfaces, data storage, and I/O
  • Perform advanced diagnostics on CNC equipment, including servo motors, valves, encoders, and controller I/O
  • Plan and execute control and automation projects, including creating material lists, building control panels, wiring, programming, and testing
  • Complete mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry projects, including bills of materials
  • Coordinate work performed by outside vendors once contracts are in place
  • Perform welding and brazing for equipment fabrication and repair
  • Track equipment repair costs and maintain accurate maintenance records
  • Operate hand tools and tool room machinery safely and effectively
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Associate's degree or higher in Electronics Technology, Industrial Technology, PC Technician, or related field
    • Emphasis on PLCs, controls, electronics, hydraulics, or mechanical systems preferred
  • 5+ years of on-the-job controls experience may be considered in lieu of a degree if all requirements are met
  • Some roles may require a four-year engineering degree depending on level and scope
  • Preferred experience in metal fabrication and welded assembly manufacturing environments
Technical Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of engineering theory and manufacturing techniques
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • PLC programming and troubleshooting
    • Electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
    • CNC diagnostics and automation systems
    • PC and network troubleshooting
  • Ability to read, create, and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and circuit drawings
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to plan, execute, and complete technical projects from start to finish
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to manage time, materials, and priorities to meet production and quality goals
Additional Requirements
  • Forklift certification (or ability to pass training) and required eye examination
