Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the
Maintenance Manager leads skilled and semi-skilled maintenance personnel and oversees the maintenance, repair, and optimization of plant facilities, grounds, and production equipment. This is a highly technical, hands-on leadership role requiring strong expertise in metal manufacturing, electrical and mechanical systems, and PLC programming.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and direct maintenance personnel in the repair and upkeep of plant buildings, grounds, machinery, and equipment
- Serve as the technical expert for plant mechanical and electrical systems
- Coordinate and oversee work performed by external vendors once contracts are in place
- Plan and schedule equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, and mandatory inspections for licenses and permits
- Install, rebuild, and maintain equipment controls, including PLCs, PCs, and custom controllers
- Program, troubleshoot, and interface PLC systems across multiple pieces of equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair electronic control circuits and production equipment components, including:
- Servos, encoders, relays, sensors, light curtains, switches, and power supplies
- Interpret and create electrical and PLC ladder logic diagrams and circuit drawings
- Complete cross-disciplinary projects involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work, including bills of materials
- Perform welding and brazing for equipment fabrication and repair
- Track equipment repair costs and maintenance records
- Perform normal maintenance and repairs across all plant equipment and facilities
Required QualificationsEducation & Experience- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 2-5 years of experience in building, plant, and equipment management
- Preferred experience in metal fabrication and welded assembly manufacturing environments
Technical Knowledge- Strong understanding of engineering theory, manufacturing techniques, and plant maintenance principles
- Hands-on experience with:
- PLC programming, troubleshooting, and system integration
- Electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- PC and network troubleshooting
- Familiarity with standard industrial maintenance practices, controls, and safety requirements
Skills & Abilities- Proven leadership skills, including supervising, training, scheduling, and assigning work
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to independently analyze and resolve process issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across diverse teams
- Ability to manage time, materials, and resources effectively to meet production and quality goals
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through
Additional Requirements- Ability to operate hand tools and most tool room machinery
- Forklift certification (or ability to pass training) and required eye examination
