Remote - Must be based in NY - to litigate cases primarily in Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

The Hartford is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Attorney / Senior Litigation Attorney to handle personal injury defense litigation involving general liability and automobile liability matters. This position is fully remote but requires extensive experience practicing in New York State courts, particularly Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties.

The attorney will manage a full litigation caseload (60 70 cases) from initial pleadings through discovery and dispositive motions.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of general liability and auto liability defense cases

• Handle litigation from case inception through discovery and dispositive motions

• Conduct and defend depositions

• Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and written discovery

• Prepare witnesses and evidence for depositions

• Appear in New York State courts

• Provide legal analysis and defense strategies for complex litigation matters

• Communicate effectively with claims professionals, clients, opposing counsel, and courts

• Ensure cases move efficiently toward resolution while meeting all court deadlines

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

• Active license to practice law in New York State

• 10+ years of personal injury defense litigation experience

• Extensive experience with New York State litigation procedures

• Experience handling auto liability and premises liability cases

• Proven experience conducting and defending depositions

• Experience appearing in NYS courts (preferably Queens, Nassau, Suffolk)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with insurance defense or staff counsel organizations

• Admission to Federal Courts

• Experience with legal software and research tools such as:

  • LexisNexis

  • Microsoft Teams / Outlook
