Embedded Multimedia Software Engineer

Job Responsibilities:

• Pipeline Development: Design, implement, and maintain complex audio/video streaming and processing pipelines using GStreamer.
• Modern C++ Engineering: Write clean, efficient, and thread-safe application code using Modern C++ (C++14/17/20) for embedded targets.
• Custom GStreamer Plugins: Develop custom GStreamer elements/plugins (source, sink, filters) to interface with proprietary hardware, sensors, or custom network protocols.
• Embedded Linux Integration: Develop software that runs in an Embedded Linux environment, handling POSIX threads, IPC, memory management, and hardware peripherals.
• Hardware Acceleration: Integrate and optimize pipelines to utilize hardware encoders/decoders (e.g., VPU, GPU, DSP) specific to our SoC platform (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson, NXP i.MX, Qualcomm).
• Performance Tuning: Profile, debug, and resolve system bottlenecks related to CPU/memory usage, video latency, and frame drops.
• Collaboration: Work closely with hardware engineers, firmware developers, and QA to bring up new boards and ensure end-to-end system reliability.

Job Description:

• Modern C++: 3+ years of professional experience with Modern C++ (C++11/14 or later), including STL, smart pointers, multithreading, and object-oriented design.
• Embedded Linux: Strong understanding of Linux OS internals, POSIX APIs, user-space application development, and cross-compilation toolchains (GCC/Clang).
• GStreamer: Proven experience building and debugging GStreamer pipelines. Familiarity with video formats (H.264, H.265, RAW), audio formats, and streaming protocols (RTSP, WebRTC, UDP).
• Debugging Skills: Proficiency with debugging and profiling tools (GDB, Valgrind, Perf, Wireshark).
• Version Control: Experience with Git and collaborative CI/CD workflows.

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

GlobalLogic estimates the starting pay range for this role to be performed in Dallas, TX, to be $130,000 to $135,000 and reflects base salary only. This pay range is provided as a good-faith estimate, and the amount offered may be higher or lower.
