Pay Rate: $50-53 Based on Experience
Job SummaryThe Network Engineer is responsible for supporting and implementing LAN and WAN data communication networks and associated network access security systems. This role is hands-on and onsite, supporting daily network operations, hardware staging, troubleshooting, documentation, and configuration activities. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong foundational network knowledge, excellent organization and communication skills, and a strong willingness to learn and grow.
Key ResponsibilitiesNetwork Implementation (30%)- Install, configure, and support LAN and WAN network infrastructure
- Perform physical network installations, including network closets and cabling
- Stage and configure Juniper access points and switches
- Perform network device configuration as required
- Interface with vendors and provide technical documentation
- Assist with DNS and remote connectivity solutions as needed
Network Troubleshooting & Problem Solving (25%)- Troubleshoot network issues using standard tools (ping, traceroute, diagnostics)
- Analyze network outages and performance issues to determine root cause
- Test defective equipment and process RMAs
- Wipe and prepare returned Cisco equipment per standards
- Minimize network downtime through effective troubleshooting
Network Documentation (15%)- Conduct network closet inventory and maintain accurate asset records
- Create and update network diagrams, reports, and documentation
- Work with senior engineers and architects on planning and standards
Network Performance & Monitoring (10%)- Monitor network health, performance, and capacity using existing tools
- Provide recommendations for improving network efficiency and reliability
Remote Access & Security (10%)- Assist with management of VPN and remote access technologies
- Support network access security systems
- Adhere to all information security policies and procedures
Process & ITIL Support (10%)- Assist in the development and execution of ITIL-based processes
- Support defined operational roles and responsibilities
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Networking, or related field OR equivalent experience
- 1-3 years of experience in a network support or engineering role (entry-level candidates considered if eager to learn)
- Strong understanding of:
- TCP/IP protocols
- Subnetting and OSI model
- VLANs, spanning tree, speed and duplex settings
- Link-state routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)
- Experience or exposure to routers, switches, and wireless networking
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
Specialized & Technical Skills- Network cabling and physical networking fundamentals
- Troubleshooting methodologies and diagnostics
- Inventory tracking and hardware lifecycle processes
- Configuration and management of network devices
- Wireless topology implementation and support
- DNS, DHCP, UNIX/Linux exposure is a plus
Desired Attributes- Network certifications preferred (JNCIA / JNCIS highly desirable)
- Experience with both Cisco and Juniper hardware
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently in an onsite environment
- Attention to detail and commitment to security standards
Information Security Responsibilities- Maintain confidentiality of credentials and authentication devices
- Protect sensitive information and company assets
- Follow all information privacy and security policies
- Promptly report security incidents per policy
