Systems Administrator

Description

We are looking for an experienced Systems Administrator to support and enhance a diverse IT environment across on-premise and cloud-based platforms in Illinois. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who enjoys maintaining secure, dependable infrastructure that supports both office operations and manufacturing activities. The role partners with technical leaders and business teams to keep core systems performing efficiently while improving stability, availability, and user support across the organization.

Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day administration of core infrastructure components, including network devices, wireless connectivity, remote access solutions, and security appliances.
Maintain Windows and Linux servers in physical and virtual environments by handling installation, configuration, updates, and ongoing system support.
Support storage, backup, and recovery capabilities to help protect business data and ensure continuity of operations.
Monitor infrastructure health and system availability, investigate issues promptly, and implement performance improvements where needed.
Help enforce cybersecurity standards through vulnerability monitoring, certificate management, patching activities, and adherence to compliance practices.
Provide technical support for high-volume printing and labeling systems used within a production setting to keep operational workflows running smoothly.
Create and maintain administrative automation using scripting tools such as PowerShell, shell scripting, or similar technologies.
Work closely with internal stakeholders and external service providers while keeping infrastructure documentation accurate and up to date.

Requirements

3+ years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, or a related IT operations role.
Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Windows 10, network infrastructure, routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless technologies.
Experience supporting enterprise environments that include both on-premise systems and cloud or virtualized platforms.
Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and Azure Active Directory administration.
Ability to support infrastructure in a manufacturing, production, or similarly hands-on operational environment.
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose technical issues across servers, networks, and end-user systems.
Effective communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical users.
