This role focuses on application onboarding, performance optimization, capacity planning, security, and platform modernization, while partnering closely with application, ETL, and platform engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Teradata Application DBA Operations

  • Administer and support multiple Teradata environments (development, test, and production) including enterprise data warehouses and application-specific marts.

  • Perform database provisioning, space management, user/role administration, and profile management.

  • Ensure high availability, stability, and operational excellence across Teradata platforms.

  • Provide operational support, incident triage, and root cause analysis in partnership with infrastructure and application teams

Performance, Capacity & Optimization

  • Conduct capacity planning, workload analysis, and proactive performance tuning.

  • Analyze query performance using Teradata tools and system views; identify and remediate bottlenecks.

  • Optimize physical database design including primary indexes, partitioning, compression, and statistics strategies.

  • Support benchmark testing and validation for new workloads and platform changes.

Python & Automation

  • Use Python to automate routine DBA tasks such as health checks, monitoring, reporting, and operational workflows.

  • Develop Python scripts to integrate Teradata metadata, system metrics, and logs with monitoring or alerting solutions.

  • Support automation around object storage, OTF workflows, and operational runbooks.

  • Collaborate with platform engineering teams to improve reliability and reduce manual operational effort through scripting and automation.

Object Storage & OTF

  • Design and support Teradata integrations with object storage platforms (e.g., cloud or on-prem object storage solutions).

  • Implement and manage OTF-based data movement for backup, restore, archival, and data lifecycle use cases.

  • Partner with platform and security teams to ensure object storage integrations meet enterprise security and compliance standards.

  • Support modernization initiatives leveraging object storage for cost efficiency and scalability.

Data Movement & Utilities (Application-Aligned)

Support application teams with Teradata utilities such as FastLoad, MultiLoad, FastExport, TPT, and BTEQ for performance-efficient data access.

  • Ensure adherence to separation-of-duties and approved data movement SOPs for production environments.

Security, Risk & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain database security controls, including roles, privileges, and access models.

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise data protection, audit, and regulatory requirements.

  • Partner with risk, security, and audit teams to support reviews, remediation, and privileged access controls.

Platform Modernization & Migration

Participate in Teradata platform upgrades, patching, and migration initiatives.

  • Support data center exit, cloud alignment, or hybrid modernization efforts involving Teradata and object storage.

  • Contribute to documentation, standards, and operational best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience as a Teradata Application DBA or Teradata Database Engineer.
