Summary
Senior Configuration Management Specialist – Hardware
Location: Seattle - Onsite
Overview:
Prime Air is building and certifying autonomous delivery drones in a heavily regulated aerospace
environment. Configuration management is how the program proves to regulators that the product it
certifies matches — or improves on — the original design intent, through every iteration in between.
This is a hands-on, tactical role, not a strategy role. Program strategy and process frameworks are
already set. The team needs someone who processes changes end to end: works the details of each
change request, chases engineering and supply chain for answers, drives changes through the
Configuration Control Board (CCB), and tracks execution from approval through physical
implementation into the product — raising flags when execution slips from plan. The role sits at the
intersection of engineering, systems, and execution: part technical engineer, part program manager.
Responsibilities
• Meet with Engineering, Manufacturing, Product, and Operations to review upcoming hardware
changes and understand their impact across the enterprise.
• Align with downstream teams to evaluate when a change should be implemented based on material
availability, testing status, integration readiness, and regulatory concurrence.
• Dig into the details of proposed change requests — challenge incomplete definitions, confirm
documentation is complete, and verify change impact is properly captured before the change goes
to the CCB.
• Facilitate hardware change and configuration management activities: change control (running the
CCB), configuration status accounting, product baselining, and release of product lifecycle data.
• Coordinate change integration activities, tracking execution of each design change from approval
through physical implementation into the product, and escalating when activities are not executed
to plan.
• Make and defend part re-identification decisions based on form, fit, function, and
interchangeability.
• Work with the infrastructure tools team to refine toolset processes and improve visibility into
configuration state across the Prime Air program.
• Collaborate with Technical Program Managers (TPMs) and program leads to maintain
configuration integrity as systems evolve.
• Facilitate change request working sessions to improve process workflows and streamline
integration efforts.
• Translate technical requirements into roadmap input for PLM/PDM systems.
• Provide input to executive reviews on how configuration decisions affect vehicle effectivity and
delivery timelines.
Top Skills
• 10+ years of hands-on configuration and change management experience in a heavily regulated
industry (aerospace, nuclear, automotive, or medical). Exceptional candidates with 5–6 years of
strong, hands-on experience in one of these environments will be considered.
• Working-level experience processing engineering changes end to end — change request through
change order through implementation — not solely release/administration of packages prepared by
others.
• Practical command of part and sub-assembly re-identification decisions, including when
interchangeability drives re-identification up the product structure.
• Hands-on experience in an enterprise PLM platform, including change objects, product structure,
and lifecycle data release.
• Demonstrated ownership: comfortable hunting down answers across engineering, supply chain, and
manufacturing rather than waiting for work packages to arrive.
• Able to work on-site in Seattle, WA.
Nice to Have Skills:
• Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE / ENOVIA experience (program PLM platform of record).
• Familiarity with CATIA (CAD) and Infor LN (ERP) data flows into the change process.
• Aerospace change and certification experience, including working with regulatory concurrence in
the change lifecycle.
• Experience in a lean or fast-moving product organization where individual contributors own the
full change package, rather than one slice of it.
Working Environment
• On-site in Seattle. The pace of the program depends on being in the room — including the
conversations between meetings.
• Contract engagement with intent to convert strong performers to full-time roles.
• Day-one, startup-style culture inside Amazon: ownership is the core expectation. If you don't know
the answer, you go find it.
