Senior Technician Electrical/Civil Drafting

Job Brief

Under general supervision, accompanied by support from drafting and engineering personnel ,performs technical and skilled design electrical drafting assignments requiring the application of fundamental engineering and advanced drafting skills to formulate and prepare complex and detailed engineering drawings associated with the construction, modification and maintenance of control structures, electrical equipment and project facilities.

Job Responsibilities

• Uses manual and/or computer drafting skills to prepare drawings from notes, marked prints, verbal/written instructions, calculations or rough sketches.
• Updates drawings from IRDs and/or site images and verifies updates with engineers and field technicians.
• Coordinates with Graphic Records for the uploading/issuing of new construction or IRD drawings/images into ProjectWise and ECM.
• Creates and updates the department cell library, parts lists and templates containing the various standard components used in drafting.
• Researches, extracts, and integrates engineering data obtained from various sources to produce the required designs.
• Reviews all information received from others or formulated by self for accuracy and completeness to minimize drafting/engineering errors.
• Performs field checks as necessary to assure that new designs will interface with existing facilities and systems.
• Applies engineering theory and/or performs mathematical calculations to achieve the completed design.
• Supports engineers with their workload as needed.
• Assists in developing new and improving existing manual and/or computer graphics drawing procedures through experimentation and innovation.
• Assists supervisor in the training and instructing of drafting personnel, as required.
• Assists in providing technical assistance and quality assurance for other drafters in support of design effort.
• Performs and may lead other drafters in field research on temporary assignments away from permanent headquarters.
• Submits requests for technical support (computer programs, etc.), simplify and expediting drawing procedures.
• Performs production design drafting and/or checking.
• Assumes duties and responsibilities of a higher classification, if designated, for upward mobility training.

Education

• College level coursework (100+) from an accredited institution will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.

Experience

At job entry, placement will be determined by a review of college transcripts and related work experience.  Bentley Microstation experience required.  Bentley Descartes experience preferred. Control system and/or electrical drafting experience and background preferred.  A minimum of 6 years of related experience CAD is required for the senior level.  Once placed into the job family, an employee may become eligible for promotion by demonstrating the ability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by their management and meeting experience requirements.
