Role Summary
The SAP S2P (Source-to-Pay) Material Master Architect is responsible for designing, governing, and optimizing Material Master data processes across SAP landscapes. The role focuses on ensuring standardized, accurate, and scalable master data architecture supporting procurement, sourcing, inventory, logistics, manufacturing, and finance processes.
The architect collaborates with business stakeholders, procurement teams, supply chain teams, SAP functional consultants, and data governance teams to implement best practices for material master management within SAP S/4HANA and integrated systems.
Key Responsibilities (KRAs)
- Material Master Data Architecture & Design
- Define enterprise-wide Material Master data strategy and governance framework.
- Design Material Master structures, attributes, numbering conventions, and classification models.
- Ensure harmonization of material data across plants, regions, and business units.
- Define standards for:
- Material types
- Industry sectors
- Valuation classes
- Units of measure
- Product hierarchy
- Batch management
- Serial number management
- SAP S2P Process Integration
- Align Material Master design with end-to-end Source-to-Pay processes.
- Work closely with:
- Procurement
- Strategic sourcing
- Inventory management
- Warehouse management
- Manufacturing
- Finance & controlling
- Ensure smooth integration between:
- SAP MM
- SAP Ariba
- SAP MDG
- SAP S/4HANA
- SAP SRM
- SAP IBP
- SAP EWM
- Third-party procurement tools
- SAP MDG & Data Governance
- Lead implementation and optimization of SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) solutions.
- Define workflows for:
- Material creation
- Change requests
- Approval processes
- Data validation
- Establish governance policies, ownership models, and stewardship processes.
- Ensure compliance with audit and regulatory requirements.
- Data Quality & Standardization
- Drive material master cleansing, deduplication, and enrichment initiatives.
- Establish KPIs for data quality and monitor adherence.
- Implement validation rules and automation controls.
- Reduce duplicate materials and improve procurement efficiency.
- SAP S/4HANA Transformation & Migration
- Support SAP S/4HANA transformation programs.
- Lead Material Master migration activities including:
- Data assessment
- Mapping
- Cleansing
- Conversion
- Validation
- Reconciliation
- Collaborate with migration and integration teams during cutover activities.
- Solution Architecture & Technical Leadership
- Provide architectural guidance for Material Master-related enhancements.
- Define integration patterns between SAP and external systems.
- Support custom developments, APIs, IDocs, and middleware integrations.
- Review functional specifications and ensure scalability of solutions.
- Stakeholder Management
- Partner with business and IT leadership to define master data roadmap.
- Conduct workshops and requirement-gathering sessions.
- Provide advisory support to procurement transformation initiatives.
- Mentor junior consultants and data governance teams.
