Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Technology Project Manager – Database Engineering to lead complex, enterprise-scale technology initiatives within the Database Engineering organization.
This role will partner closely with Database Engineering leadership and technical teams across Application Development, Infrastructure, Cloud, Cybersecurity, Enterprise Architecture, Service Management, and other technology functions to deliver strategic database initiatives.
The Senior Technology Project Manager will drive programs spanning database modernization, platform lifecycle management, upgrades and migrations, enterprise patching, cloud adoption, standards and governance, automation, operational excellence, and AI-enabled database operations.
The ideal candidate brings a strong technology orientation with experience managing complex infrastructure, database, cloud, or enterprise technology programs. This individual must be able to translate highly technical objectives into structured execution plans with clear scope, milestones, dependencies, ownership, risks, KPIs, and measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Lead complex, enterprise-level Database Engineering and technology initiatives from planning and initiation through execution, implementation, and operational transition.
Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, schedules, milestones, dependencies, resource requirements, risks, issues, and executive-level reporting.
Coordinate cross-functional initiatives involving Database Engineering, Application Development, Cloud, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Enterprise Architecture, and Service Management teams.
Drive database modernization and lifecycle initiatives, including technology upgrades, migrations, platform refreshes, end-of-life remediation, cloud adoption, and technical debt reduction.
Manage enterprise database patching and maintenance programs, including planning, application coordination, testing, scheduling, risk mitigation, communications, and completion tracking.
Lead initiatives related to the development and adoption of database engineering standards, reference architectures, governance processes, technical guidelines, and best practices.
Coordinate the evaluation, onboarding, implementation, and operationalization of new database technologies, platforms, products, tools, and capabilities.
Lead technology initiatives focused on automation and AI-enabled Database Operations, including opportunities to improve monitoring, incident response, troubleshooting, capacity management, performance optimization, patching, lifecycle management, and engineering productivity.
Partner with Database Engineering teams to identify opportunities to leverage AI, intelligent automation, predictive analytics, and agentic capabilities to reduce manual operational activities and improve database reliability and efficiency.
Establish and track measurable KPIs related to technology adoption, automation, operational efficiency, risk reduction, lifecycle compliance, reliability, and cost optimization.
Facilitate technical and executive-level meetings, ensuring decisions, action items, risks, dependencies, and ownership are clearly documented and driven through completion.
Proactively identify project risks, technical constraints, delivery blockers, and cross-team dependencies and drive appropriate mitigation and escalation strategies.
Provide clear executive-level reporting on project health, accomplishments, upcoming milestones, risks, issues, financial considerations, and decisions requiring leadership support.
Coordinate with technology vendors and strategic partners on product implementations, professional services engagements, technical evaluations, and project deliverables.
Ensure project delivery aligns with enterprise requirements related to cybersecurity, architecture, change management, governance, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness.
Required Qualifications
Extensive experience managing complex enterprise technology projects or programs in large, cross-functional environments.
Strong background leading initiatives involving database engineering, infrastructure, cloud platforms, enterprise technology, or application environments.
Demonstrated experience managing technology modernization, migrations, upgrades, platform implementations, lifecycle management, or infrastructure transformation initiatives.
Strong understanding of enterprise technology delivery and dependencies across applications, databases, infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, and architecture.
Experience coordinating technical teams through production changes, maintenance activities, implementations, migrations, or platform upgrades.
Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives with complex technical dependencies and competing priorities.
Strong project planning, risk management, issue management, dependency management, and executive reporting capabilities.
Ability to work effectively with engineers, architects, technical leaders, vendors, business stakeholders, and senior leadership.
Strong communication and facilitation skills with the ability to translate technical information into clear business and executive-level updates.
Experience establishing KPIs and metrics to measure technology adoption, operational improvements, risk reduction, and project outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Database Engineering, Database Administration, Infrastructure Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or Platform Engineering organizations.
Familiarity with enterprise database technologies such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or cloud-native database platforms.
Experience managing database migrations, upgrades, patching, lifecycle management, cloud transformation, or technology modernization programs.
Exposure to AI, intelligent automation, predictive analytics, AIOps, or agentic AI within enterprise technology or infrastructure environments.
Experience delivering initiatives within highly regulated, large-scale enterprise environments.
PMP, PgMP, Agile, Scrum, SAFe, or similar project/program management certification is a plus.
