Data Product Delivery Manager who will be responsible for converting prioritized business demand into a clear, sequenced, and executable delivery backlog for the enterprise data and analytics platform. The Data Product Delivery Manager is a hands-on role that serves as the operating control point between business priorities, functional requirements, and technical delivery. This role ensures work is properly defined before it reaches engineering, protects technical capacity from ambiguity and churn, and drives predictable delivery of data products, analytics solutions, and platform enhancements.
The Data Product Delivery Manager partners closely with business product owners, functional analysts, data engineering teams, and project managers to ensure data products and analytics solutions are delivered with speed, clarity, and measurable business impact.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Delivery Control and Backlog Readiness
- Own the conversion of approved priorities into a structured, sequenced, capacity-aligned delivery backlog
- Maintain clear separation between intake backlog, discovery and refinement work, and delivery-ready work
- Enforce definition-of-ready standards before work enters active development
- Ensure all delivery-ready work includes the business owner, problem statement, expected outcome, source data understanding, acceptance criteria, UAT commitment, dependencies, and known risks
- Delay, reject, or return work that is not sufficiently defined, regardless of business urgency or executive visibility
- Maintain visibility into active work, upcoming work, blocked work, deferred work, and accepted tradeoffs
Data Product and Scope Leadership
- Partner with business product owners and functional analysts to shape ambiguous business needs into executable data product increments
- Translate business needs into epics, user stories, acceptable criteria, and releasable delivery units
- Ensure requirements are aligned to enterprise data definitions, ontology standards, business metrics, and platforms capabilities
- Identify where requests are duplicative, misaligned, premature, or better solved through an existing data product
- Help define minimum viable delivery scope and prevent uncontrolled expansion during active development
- Ensure each delivered data product has a clear business purpose, accountable owner, intended audience, and measurable outcome
Intake, Prioritization Execution, and Flow Management
- Manage the intake-to-delivery process for data and analytics work
- Maintain the backlog structure and hygiene across new requests, enhancements, technical debt, roadmap work, and support-driven improvements
- Translate the Steering Committee, Vice President, and business-prioritized work into executable delivery sequencing
- Apply capacity-based planning across strategic domains, foundational work, enhancements, production support, and technical debt
- Identify sequencing conflicts, dependency risks, and capacity constraints early
- Escalate prioritization tradeoffs when necessary, but enforce readiness standards without requiring escalation for every incomplete request
- Support spring planning, backlog refinement, demos, retrospectives, and delivery reviews
Business Partnership and Accountability
- Partner with business owners to clarify desired outcomes, decision workflows, process impacts, validation needs, and adoption expectations
- Ensure business stakeholders understand and meet their obligations for requirements clarification, testing, validation, signoff, and release readiness
- Provide clear visibility into delivery status, sequencing decisions, scope tradeoffs, and timeline impacts
- Act as a translator between business objectives and technical execution constraints
- Help reset stakeholder expectations when work is not ready, not resourced, or not aligned to approved priorities
- Reinforce that priority does not equal readiness
Engineering Enablement
- Protect engineering capacity by reducing ambiguity, mid-cycle requirement changes, avoidable rework, and non-engineering work
- Ensure engineers receive clear, actionable, delivery-ready requirements
- Partner with the Lead Data Engineer to align scope with technical architecture, engineering standards, ontology design, and platform constraints
- Ensure technical dependencies and design questions are identified before development begins
- Support engineering throughout by removing delivery blockers, governed pipelines, ontology improvements, and sustainable platform delivery
Release Readiness and Delivery Governance
- Establish and enforce release-readiness expectations for data products, reports, dashboards, ontology changes, and platform enhancements
- Ensure releases include the appropriate validation, documentation, stakeholder communication, training materials, and support expectations
- Coordinate UAT planning and completion with the Functional Analysts, business owners, engineering, and project managers
- Ensure known limitations, assumptions, and follow-up items are documented before release
- Maintain delivery decision logs, scope decisions, deferred items, and accepted risks
- Support post-release reviews to evaluate adoption, quality, business impact, and improvement opportunities
Continuous Improvement and Operating Discipline
- Establish and improve intake templates, definition-of-ready standards, backlog practices, sprint ceremonies, delivery metrics, and release standards
- Identify recurring bottlenecks in requirements, intake, UAT, delivery, stakeholder alignment, and release management
- Recommend process changes to improve throughout, reduce rework, and increase delivery predictability
- Support a culture of disciplined execution, clear ownership, transparent tradeoffs, and accountable delivery
- Help mature data and analytics from a request-driven reporting function into a scalable data product delivery organization
