Position Overview
Our client is seeking Senior Structural Engineers to perform structural analysis and design for nuclear facilities and reactor-related projects. The work will focus heavily on seismic analysis, seismic qualification, seismic isolation, and the design of safety-related nuclear structures.
This is not a traditional civil/site engineering position. Candidates must have substantial hands-on structural engineering experience involving complex, highly regulated facilities.
Required Skills
- Senior-level structural engineering analysis and design experience
- Strong experience with seismic analysis, seismic qualification, or seismic isolation
- Experience designing or analyzing reinforced concrete and structural steel systems
- Working knowledge of relevant structural codes and standards, such as:
- ASCE standards
- ACI standards
- International Building Code
- Applicable nuclear design codes, including ASME Section III
- Ability to perform, review, and document engineering calculations
- Interest in obtaining a Professional Engineer license if not already licensed
Highly Preferred
- Direct nuclear power or nuclear facility experience
- Nuclear design or design-construction experience
- Experience with nuclear islands, reactor buildings, or safety-related structures
- Active PE license
- Experience from an SMR company, nuclear engineering organization, or major AEC/EPC firm
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a senior structural engineer with direct responsibility for structural and seismic calculations on nuclear facilities. Their resume should clearly identify the nuclear project, structure, calculations performed, applicable codes, and personal engineering responsibilities.
Strong candidates may come from organizations such as Bechtel, Westinghouse, GE Vernova/GE Hitachi, Fluor, Jacobs, AECOM, Burns & McDonnell, Sargent & Lundy, Framatome, or an SMR developer.
Common False Positives
Avoid candidates whose experience is primarily:
- Land development or general civil engineering
- Stormwater, drainage, roadway, or site design
- Construction management without engineering calculation responsibility
- General commercial structures with no seismic or highly regulated project experience
- Nuclear-adjacent work without meaningful nuclear project responsibilities
- Candidates without a PE who have no intention of pursuing one
