This position serves as a Traffic Analysis Technician for the Traffic Analysis Section of the Traffic Survey Group. This position reports to the Traffic Analysis Supervisor and supports all Traffic Survey Group sections and staff as assigned.
This position is responsible for performing technical tasks related to planning, processing, analyzing, and published generated traffic monitoring data to meet Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) reporting requirements and to support transportation planning activities of the NCDOT to maintain a Traffic Monitoring System.
This position is responsible for:
Reviewing and analyzing short-term and continuous traffic monitoring data sets on a daily/weekly/monthly basis
Processing small to large data sets, performing quality control and quality assurance, and analyzing small to large traffic data sets
Evaluating traffic trends, investigating data issues, adding/editing/retiring station points, and communicating with other team members as needed to address traffic data collection and equipment performance and efficiency concerns
Supplying traffic monitoring data sets that include, but are not limited to, seasonal data, vehicle class data, annual average daily traffic data, and other information generated for individual and groups of traffic monitoring stations
Investigating and correcting low to high-level QC issues throughout any of the traffic monitoring data sets and systems
Performing traffic station edits in Traffic Survey's operating applications
Responding to Traffic Data Requests and providing support to personnel performing other functions of the group on an as needed basis
Working with support staff for the development of new processes to enhance the data analysis and management processes of the traffic analysis section
Reviewing the setup of Interstate/Freeway Ramp Balancing by confirming work zones
Requesting and processing counts through the vendor count contract
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management PreferencesSalary Grade and Salary Range: NC11 $45,431.00-$79,504.00
Management prefers applicants with the following:- Considerable knowledge of traffic monitoring concepts, collection techniques, procedures, standards (FHWA-TMG, and AASHTO-Traffic Data Programs) and equipment
- Considerable knowledge of statistics and the application of statistics to traffic data analysis and quality control
- Demonstrated ability to identify and investigate data anomalies within large and complex data sets by using line graphs to compare data
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and perform tasks of low to high complexity, set short and long-term goals, and to be able to prioritize work daily
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent and timely customer service by providing proper data sets to meet customer needs

Associate's degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
