Job Description
Our client, a Professional Services company, is seeking a PeopleSoft Grants SME Consultant. The position exists because multiple state agencies are using PeopleSoft Grants inconsistently - each operating in its own way - and DFA needs an expert who can step in, assess the current environment, and drive standardization across agencies.
This is a hands-on engagement. The consultant will be responsible for the following:
- Conduct discovery sessions
- Identify configuration gaps
- Improve reporting and queries
- Update documentation and job aids
- Deliver virtual role-based training to staff.
Given high user turnover across agencies, the ability to build repeatable, durable training content is as important as the technical expertise.
Required Skills
Required Technical Skills:
- Background: 7-15+ years in PeopleSoft FSCM, with deep, hands-on specialization in the Grants module. Has lived inside a real, operating Grants environment - not just implemented it.
- Experience Level: Senior consultant or SME; likely independent consultant or has worked for a PeopleSoft consulting firm
- Technical Background: PeopleSoft 9.2 FSCM, PS Query, PUM, Grants/Project Costing/Billing/AR modules, ServiceNow, SharePoint
- Key Characteristics: Independent, fast ramp-up, systems thinker, effective communicator, patient trainer, documentation-oriented
- Hands-on PeopleSoft 9.2 FSCM expertise - Grants module is primary; Project Costing, Billing, and AR are equally
important
- PeopleSoft Query - ability to create, revise, and document functional queries
- PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) - experience supporting environments actively running PUM updates
- PeopleSoft-delivered Grants reports - ability to identify, configure, and deliver standard reporting
- ServiceNow - experience working in environments where tasks are assigned and tracked via ServiceNow
- SharePoint - experience working with SharePoint-based documentation repositories
- Experience supporting environments beginning to explore API or AI-related capabilities within PeopleSoft
- Experience supporting grant compliance or federal grant reporting requirements (e.g., FEMA, FHWA, HHS)
Nice Have:
- Direct experience with New Mexico DFA, SHARE, or NM state government
- Familiarity with NM-specific agency structures (DOT, DPS, DOH)
- Experience with PeopleSoft integration with external systems (APIs)
- PeopleSoft AI or analytics module exposure
- Instructional design or eLearning development experience
- Experience creating documentation in ServiceNow or SharePoint-based knowledge bases
Additional Comments
- Must have strong hands-on PeopleSoft Grants experience at a high-level
- What makes someone exceptional per the client: Has worked in a messy, multi-agency environment with inconsistent processes and actually brought order to it - can show concrete examples of training materials, queries, and job aids they built from scratch, and has a track record of leaving teams more capable than when they arrived
Relevant Job Titles: PeopleSoft Grants Consultant, PeopleSoft FSCM Functional Consultant, ERP Grants Analyst, PeopleSoft Business Analyst - Grants/Projects, State ERP Consultant
- Relevant Industries: State or local government, public sector ERP consulting, higher education (grants-heavy), healthcare systems with grant funding.
