Job Title: DOCSIS SME CPE Hardware & Embedded Software Design
Location: Denver, CO
Role Summary:
We are looking for a DOCSIS Subject Matter Expert (SME) with strong R&D experience who has designed and qualified broadband DOCSIS CPE devices end-to-end.
This role owns both hardware and software design decisions, works closely with embedded firmware teams, chooses chipsets/SoCs, and supports customer-facing activities through product build and qualification. The ideal candidate has real-world experience delivering DOCSIS 3.0 / 3.1 products and preparing platforms for DOCSIS 4.0+.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as the DOCSIS technical authority (SME) for broadband CPE products
Design and influence both hardware and software architecture
Lead and mentor R&D teams on DOCSIS CPE design best practices
Select and evaluate chipsets / SoCs for cable modems and gateways
Work closely with embedded software teams (Linux-based firmware)
Participate in technical and architectural decision-making
Support CPE build, integration, and qualification
Troubleshoot complex DOCSIS issues during lab testing and field validation
Work directly with end customers/MSOs to support product definition and issue resolution
Analyze provisioning, performance, and stability issues using logs and packet captures
Strong hands-on experience with:
DOCSIS 3.0, 3.1, and exposure to DOCSIS 4.0+
Full CPE design lifecycle (concept build qualification)
Proven R&D background working with hardware and embedded software teams
Embedded software experience:
Linux
Embedded C (design guidance/review level)
DOCSIS provisioning fundamentals:
DHCP
TLV configuration
Firmware flows
Strong troubleshooting skills using:
Wireshark / tcpdump
CM logs
SNMP
gdb / strace
Solid networking fundamentals:
IPv4 / IPv6
NAT, DNS, DHCP
SNMP, HTTP / HTTPS
Nice to Have:
PacketCable / Voice experience
Customer-facing experience with MSOs
Experience qualifying DOCSIS CPE for North American cable networks
