Senior Data Engineer - Power BI & Snowflake Location: Wisconsin

Position Overview AE Business Solutions is seeking a senior-level Data Engineer to support a Wisconsin-based public-sector organization. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of business intelligence and analytics experience, including deep hands-on expertise with Power BI, Snowflake, SQL, and investment management data.
This role will design, develop, and support scalable analytical solutions used across investment, risk, performance, and operational functions. The successful candidate will be experienced in building enterprise-grade Power BI solutions, developing complex DAX and SQL, optimizing semantic models, and working with large financial datasets.
Key Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models that support investment and business decision-making.
- Partner with investment, risk, performance, and operational teams to translate complex business requirements into scalable analytical solutions.
- Develop advanced DAX, dimensional models, calculations, hierarchies, and reusable business logic.
- Develop and optimize Snowflake SQL supporting portfolio, position, transaction, security, benchmark, performance, and risk datasets.
- Optimize Power BI solutions for performance, scalability, usability, and maintainability.
- Troubleshoot complex reporting, data, semantic model, refresh, and performance issues.
- Develop testing, reconciliation, monitoring, and data quality controls to ensure reporting accuracy and reliability.
- Support source control, automated deployment, and CI/CD practices for business intelligence solutions.
- Establish and promote Power BI development standards, visualization standards, and reporting best practices.
- Document business logic, data models, technical designs, and operational procedures.
Required Qualifications - 7+ years of experience developing enterprise business intelligence or analytical solutions.
- 5+ years of advanced, hands-on Power BI experience in production environments.
- Expert-level experience with Power BI semantic modeling, DAX, performance optimization, security, refresh strategies, and Power BI Service.
- Expert-level SQL skills and significant hands-on Snowflake experience supporting analytical workloads.
- Strong experience with dimensional modeling, including fact tables, dimensions, hierarchies, and slowly changing dimensions.
- Direct experience in asset management, investment management, institutional investment, or a closely related financial services environment.
- Strong understanding of investment data, including portfolios, positions, transactions, securities, benchmarks, exposures, performance, and risk.
- Experience working directly with portfolio managers, analysts, risk professionals, performance teams, or investment operations staff.
- Experience developing reporting solutions using large, complex, and performance-sensitive financial datasets.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate between technical and investment audiences.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with automated testing, reconciliation, data quality, source control, and CI/CD practices.
- PL-300 Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification.
- CFA, CAIA, or another investment-industry designation.
