Summary

Job Description Summary
The Edison Works Military Material Systems Section supports development, industrialization, and manufacturing of ceramic, polymeric, and metallic materials for Edison Works' military products. The Laboratory Operations Subsection Manager leads the team that runs the section's material and specimen laboratories - ensuring material systems are appropriately developed and matured into test-ready specimens for characterization, that processes are documented, and that materials advance through TRL/MRL maturation.

This leader owns safe, on-time, quality lab throughput; has a unique opportunity to lead the team through facility and equipment upgrade projects; stands up and runs low-rate production activities; and helps build and scale the team as the mission grows. This is a people-leadership role grounded in program management, laboratory operations, and GE Aerospace FLIGHT DECK (lean) principles.

Job Description

Role Overview

Lead the people, facilities, and operating rhythm of the Military Material Systems laboratories, translating program needs into reliable lab capacity and output.

Lead and develop a team of engineers, technicians, and senior professionals operating the section's material and specimen laboratories, owning safety, quality, cost, and on-time delivery

Ensure material systems are appropriately developed and matured into test-ready specimens for characterization, with processes documented and materials advanced through TRL/MRL maturation

Take on the unique opportunity to lead the team through laboratory facility and equipment upgrade projects - and to build and scale the team as the mission grows

Stand up and manage low-rate engineering, manufacturing, and devleopment (EMD) production activities, establishing repeatable processes, process control, and capacity to meet program commitments

Apply program and project management discipline across a portfolio of concurrent lab and maturation efforts, proactively surfacing risks to cost and schedule

Deploy FLIGHT DECK (lean) principles and daily management to improve lab flow, reduce variation, and build a problem-solving culture

Additional Responsibilities

Demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for materials technologies and associated applications

Utilize experience and expertise to navigate organizational and technical challenges, and develop and execute objectives for self and others

Motivate the team to execute on commitments within budgetary and schedule constraints, proactively communicating challenges that place deliverables at risk

Drive accountability for documenting technical data generated within assigned projects, ensuring consistency with engineering policies and procedures

Collaborate with GE Aerospace production and digital resources to implement robust process control and monitoring methods

Promote analytics-based solutions for project definition and execution

Broadly communicate program updates and learnings to the advanced military community in technical reviews and forums, and brief senior leaders and external agency customers

Participate in research and development programs with GE Aerospace Research and external agency customers to advance materials technologies

Interface with product line leaders to ensure material system considerations are appropriately integrated into product designs and hardware

Cultivate career growth by regularly identifying challenging technical and organizational leadership opportunities for the team

Desired Characteristics

Minimum 8 years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing, or technical discipline
Possess a current US Government Security Clearance.

Demonstrated people-leadership experience, including developing talent and leading teams of technical professionals

Laboratory management experience - operations, equipment, safety, quality systems, and throughput

Experience managing facilities and/or equipment upgrade or capital projects from scope through qualification

Experience establishing or running low-rate / pilot EMD production and associated process control and monitoring

Established program and project management skills across concurrent priorities under tight deadlines

Experience communicating and briefing senior leaders and external agency customers in technical reviews and forums

Working knowledge of GE Aerospace FLIGHT DECK, lean, and associated problem-solving tools

Composites, coatings, ceramic, polymeric, or metallic materials experience; familiarity with TRL/MRL maturation

Proficiency with data-analytics tools (for example, Spotfire) to drive analytics-based decisions

Ability to work independently and efficiently

Humble, transparent, focused, and a problem solver (respectful and eager to learn, speaks with candor, strategically prioritizes, challenges existing processes with analytical rigor)

Knowledge of Edison Works products and organization
