About the OrganizationOur client is a leading manufacturer of specialty structural steel products. They are seeking a
Business Systems Engineer to support the continued evolution of their in-house manufacturing software environment alongside the design and implementation of a brand-new ERP platform.
Position OverviewThis is a hands-on, growth-oriented role working closely with senior technical leadership and internal business users across Sales, Accounting, Purchasing, Production, and Quality. You will help build, enhance, and support critical applications that drive daily operations across the organization.
The current manufacturing execution system (MES) handles work orders, production planning, quality control, and material traceability. The incoming ERP platform will expand organizational functionality to encompass quoting, customer orders, inventory, purchasing, shipping, invoicing, AP/AR, and core transactional workflows.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and enhance application functionality across both the legacy MES and new ERP platforms.
- Support database design, optimization, and development efforts.
- Assist with comprehensive data migration from legacy environments.
- Build and maintain secure APIs and application integrations.
- Manage testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and production support for business systems, reporting tools, and shop-floor integrations.
Qualifications & Technical Stack- Core Development: Professional software development experience with proficiency in Python and working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, alongside version control using Git.
- Database Skills: Strong SQL and relational database capabilities (MySQL preferred).
- Integration & Lifecycle: Experience building APIs and system data exchanges, coupled with exposure to the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) from requirements through deployment and support.
- Domain Exposure: Preferred background working with ERP, MES, inventory management, or order management platforms. Previous exposure to manufacturing or industrial environments (work orders, bills of materials, production planning, quality control) is a distinct advantage.
- AI-Assisted Development: Familiarity leveraging AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude, Codex) while exercising strong independent judgment to test, review, and validate generated code.
- Ideal Profile: Well-suited for a mid-level engineer with a solid technical foundation who is eager to expand their expertise in enterprise ERP/MES environments and business-critical manufacturing software.
