Job Overview:
The Mainframe Network Administrator will manage, support, and modernize the mainframe networking environment. The candidate will design, configure, and support mainframe network infrastructure including VTAM, NCP, SNA, and TCP/IP, and will troubleshoot session-level connectivity and session management functions using CA TPX, CL/SuperSession, and related tools. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required; previous session management migration experience is a plus. The candidate will lead and execute the migration of session management and networking tools to updated or consolidated platforms, ensuring session continuity and minimal business disruption. Duties include configuring CA TPX and CL/SuperSession for session routing, security, and user access; planning, testing, and implementing cutover and rollback strategies; coordinating timelines, dependencies, and risk mitigation with vendor teams and internal stakeholders; monitoring session performance pre- and post-migration; and maintaining configuration and procedure documentation. The role also ensures security, audit, and regulatory compliance while providing L2/L3 support on an on-call rotation.
Required Skills:
- 8+ years hands-on experience in mainframe networking.
- Strong expertise in SNA and TCP/IP protocols.
- Proficiency in CA TPX and CL/SuperSession configuration, administration, session routing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with session management tool and network software migration.
- Demonstrated capability in session continuity and cutover/rollback planning.
- Hands-on experience with VTAM, NCP, and Communications Server for z/OS.
- Strong capabilities in troubleshooting, documentation, and stakeholder communication.
- Ability to lead migrations end-to-end, including validation.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with z/OS and related mainframe operating environments.
- High expertise in handling tools like CA TPX and CL/SuperSession.
- Experience migrating to CL/SuperSession from other platforms.
- Knowledge of network security protocols and compliance frameworks.
Additional or Advantageous Skills:
- Experience in BFSI, healthcare, or large enterprise mainframe estates.
- Background in vendor tool transition and vendor coordination.
- Experience providing L2/L3 support and participating in an on-call rotation.
