Job#: 3027720 Job Description: Principal Technical Product Manager (AI Focus) - Contract
We are seeking a highly skilled
Principal Technical Product Manager (TPM) with strong experience driving
AI-enabled product delivery in complex, enterprise environments. This contract role is execution-heavy by design and intended to scale impact over time-combining hands-on delivery ownership with leadership of AI strategy, tooling adoption, and modern delivery practices.
Role Overview
This role balances
traditional Technical Product Management execution (approximately 20%) with a
new, AI-focused strategic initiative (approximately 80%). You will initially embed within existing product teams to learn the domain, workflows, tooling, and compliance considerations. As you ramp up, your scope will expand to shaping and leading AI strategy across a broader product portfolio.
You will act as a bridge between
technical strategy and execution, ensuring AI initiatives are practical, secure, scalable, and fully integrated into day-to-day delivery.
How You Will Make an Impact
Phase 1: Immersion & Delivery Ownership
- Strategic Delivery Execution
- Assume TPM ownership for a subset of enterprise products, partnering with Business Product Managers and distributed engineering teams to ensure predictable, on-time delivery.
- Shadow & Learn Existing Practices
- Closely observe current delivery models, governance, and tooling to understand what's working, where AI can add value, and how improvements can be introduced responsibly.
- Architectural Partnership
- Work side-by-side with Technical Architects to implement modern specification frameworks and developer-enablement tools (e.g., Spec Kit, GitHub Copilot).
Phase 2: AI Strategy & Scaling
- Cross-Portfolio AI Leadership
- Expand focus from individual teams to driving AI initiatives across multiple products and delivery streams.
- AI-Enabled SDLC Modernization
- Lead initiatives to embed AI into the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including backlog refinement, sprint reporting, workflow optimization, and technical documentation.
- Strategic AI Roadmapping
- Own AI roadmaps with a strong emphasis on execution, ensuring alignment between business goals, technical feasibility, and delivery velocity.
Core Responsibilities
- Define AI Success Metrics
- Establish clear measures for adoption, quality, productivity improvements, and business impact.
- Translate Complexity Into Action
- Convert advanced AI and architectural concepts into clear PRDs, technical specifications, and executable plans.
- Drive Rapid Iteration
- Partner closely with Architects, Engineers, and Data teams to continuously refine AI-enabled solutions (hands-on coding not required).
- Govern & Scale Responsibly
- Define AI governance standards ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, cost-effective, and repeatable across teams.
- Knowledge Sharing & Enablement
- Build and scale AI knowledge across Product and Technology teams-this is a key success metric, not a side activity.
- Global Collaboration
- Work effectively with U.S.-based stakeholders and international engineering teams across time zones.
AI Tooling & Technical Environment
- Primary AI platforms currently include Google-based tools, with pilots using additional AI services and design/prototyping platforms.
- Prototyping experience with AI is valued, regardless of tooling, with the expectation that candidates can translate skills across environments.
- AI toolchain exposure may include platforms such as:
- GitHub Copilot
- Gemini / Vertex AI
- MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers
- Custom Skills
- Notebook-based experimentation and documentation tools
Experience & Skills
Required
- 7+ years of Technical Product Management experience supporting complex, multi-team delivery
- 1-2+ years delivering AI-enabled or LLM-based products, features, or internal workflows
- Strong understanding of:
- AI agents and orchestration
- Prompt-driven workflows
- APIs, latency considerations, and token economics
- Proven ability to modernize SDLC practices, technical standards, or architectural patterns
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution
Preferred
- Experience in government, public safety, or other highly regulated / secure environments
- Demonstrated security-first mindset, especially in sensitive or compliance-driven domains
Who You Are
- Outcome-Driven - You focus on measurable results and delivery impact.
- Strategic Yet Practical - Comfortable setting vision while owning execution.
- Structured Thinker - Able to turn ambiguity into clear, actionable roadmaps.
- Highly Collaborative - Thrive in cross-functional environments.
- Curious & Growth-Oriented - Stay current with emerging AI tools, models, and best practices.
Engagement Details
- Contract Length: 12 months (with potential for extension)
- Work Model: Hybrid, with an expectation of 3 days onsite per week
- Location Flexibility: Multiple locations may be considered, provided the onsite requirement can be met
- Interview Process:
- Initial screening with a Hiring Manager and Technical Architect
- Follow-up interview focused on a problem-solving exercise
