Job Description

Join our Toyota Material Handling North America team as an Electrical Hardware Engineer in our Energy Storage Solutions department!

The Role:

We're seeking a passionate and dedicated Electrical Hardware Engineer who brings enthusiasm, strong decision-making, and expertise to the table. In this role, you'll lead the electrical architecture and hardware development for our Energy Solution product lines, including battery and fuel cell systems while collaborating with a dynamic and diverse team to achieve shared goals. We value innovative and creative ideas-yes, even during meetings (where snacks are always welcome). If you enjoy tackling challenges with positivity and a bit of humor, you'll feel right at home here.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Lead the design, development, and integration of electrical systems for fuel cell and battery applications, ensuring seamless performance and reliability.
  • Define component specifications and work closely with vendors to select and integrate critical electrical subsystem components into our products.
  • Collaborate with both internal teams and external partners to design and validate electrical circuit designs (schematics and PCB layouts) for fuel cell and battery management systems.
  • Develop prototypes, conduct rigorous testing, and ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve system issues to improve reliability and efficiency while optimizing designs for manufacturing.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design specs, test plans, and analysis reports.
  • Collaborate across functions-mechanical engineers, software developers, test engineers, and more-to ensure smooth system integration.
  • Support functional safety engineers with risk and safety analysis documentation (FMEDA, FTA, S/DFMEA).
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.

What We're Looking For:
  • Engineer with deep expertise and a passion for developing energy solutions that drive real-world impact.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical design and development, especially in battery and fuel cell applications.
  • Proficiency in electrical circuit design and analysis, and experience with simulation tools (e.g., SPICE).
  • Extensive experience with CAD tools for circuit design (e.g., Altium, OrCAD).
  • Proven ability to optimize circuit designs for manufacturing and commercialize them in high-demand industries.
  • In-depth understanding of relevant industry standards and agency approvals (UL, etc.).
  • Familiarity with battery systems-particularly those used in motive power applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to a variety of audiences.

What Sets You Apart:
  • A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in electrical design and development, especially in battery and fuel cell applications.
  • Hands-on experience in the automotive or industrial sector.
  • Certifications in electrical engineering or systems engineering.
  • In-depth experience with battery management systems and fuel cell technologies.
  • Experience designing high-voltage systems (>60V) and implementing robust protection mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with UL 2267 or UL2580 standards.

Where and When You'll Work:
  • This is an in-person role located at our Rochester, New York office-ideal for those who thrive in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.

What Your Total Compensation & Benefits Package will look like:

Salary - $106,000 - $171,200 per year. Compensation depends on the selected candidate's education and experience.

Relocation: This role may be eligible for relocation assistance.

World Class Benefits:
  • Competitive Salary
  • Performance Bonus
  • Generous Paid Time Off and 13 Paid Holidays
  • Affordable Medical plans and no-cost Dental & Vision options
  • 100% 401(k) match up to 6%
  • Company-Paid Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability
  • Tuition Assistance Program
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with access to mental health care, legal support, and financial guidance
