Project Overview:

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel's government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

UPF is a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar project and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy's largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration's largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.

The UPF project works on multiple schedules. The schedule will be discussed during your interview.

Eligibility for this position requires ship; successful candidate must provide proof of ship in order to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project's control systems aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of control systems components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure unique and complex requirements of a project's control systems aspects are met. #LI-EH1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Control Systems engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria for a large size project or assignment in support of a global business unitor staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications
  • Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  • Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals
  • Coordinates Control Systems engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
  • When delegated, provides guidance to other Control Systems engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects
  • Provides technical assistance to other Control Systems personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues
  • Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project Control Systems requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
  • Mentors and assists more junior Control Systems team members
  • Completes Control Systems documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance
  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Automation/Control Systems, or Electromechanical Engineering and 8-10 years of relevant experience, or in lieu of degree, 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Power BI, etc.).
  • Knowledgeable of control system engineering work processes, procedures, and specifications.
  • Extensive experience with operations technology equipment and component configuration, integration, and testing.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
