Project Overview:

Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel's scope of service in Sentinel's current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.

A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. We use our expertise to help our customers securely and effectively transform mission delivery.

Job Summary:

This position is for a Senior Control Systems Engineer who will prepare design drawings for construction, supporting calculations, and equipment/commodity specifications associated with the Sentinel and other projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This position is located in Knoxville, TN.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies Control Systems engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
  • Participates in the design, development, modification and evaluation of Control Systems' components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department procedures, design standards and guides
  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
  • Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines, functional project groups, suppliers and the client
  • Originates and checks conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals
  • Originates and checks designs for misc. systems, which may include HVAC, lighting, power, and other utilities, gas monitoring, etc.
  • Originates and checks Control Systems' design deliverables such as P&IDs, logic, control philosophy, specifications, data sheets, material requisitions, misc. databases (e.g., Instrument and I/O lists)
  • Supports physical design of Control Systems' components via 3D model review, preparation of Instrument Installation Details and location drawings
  • Assists in schedule and budget preparation for Control Systems project work scope
  • Mentors and assists more junior Control Systems team members

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or other related Engineering field from an accredited institution with 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience,

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • ship required
  • Experience with design of Department of Defense and/or Department of Energy facilities
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 application suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Power BI, etc.)

Preferred:
  • Current (not expired) Professional Engineer's (PE) License
  • Experience working within AS9100D and/or NQA-1 quality programs
  • Possess or have ability to obtain security clearance
