OverviewOur client is seeking an experienced
Field Engineer I - Structured Cabling to provide technical leadership and field support for large-scale structured cabling and low-voltage infrastructure projects. This individual will play a critical role in supporting project execution from pre-construction planning through project closeout, ensuring installations meet quality standards, technical specifications, and customer expectations.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data center environments, fiber optic infrastructure, material management, and structured cabling systems. This position requires a highly motivated professional who can work independently, collaborate across multiple teams, and provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Engineering & Project Support- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, technical manuals, and project documentation.
- Develop and maintain shop drawings, submittals, technical documentation, and project records.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to field teams during installation activities.
- Support project managers and field leadership throughout the installation and closeout phases.
- Identify and resolve technical challenges while ensuring project milestones remain on schedule.
Quality Assurance & Field Operations- Perform site assessments, field walks, and project evaluations.
- Conduct system testing, equipment verification, inspections, and troubleshooting activities.
- Manage punch-list completion and verify corrections are completed according to project requirements.
- Ensure installations comply with customer specifications, quality standards, and industry best practices.
- Monitor field activities to minimize rework and maintain project quality.
Structured Cabling & Fiber Infrastructure- Support installation and validation of structured cabling systems in data center and commercial environments.
- Review cable schedules, pathways, rack elevations, and infrastructure requirements.
- Provide expertise in fiber optic cable construction, fiber types, connector types, and testing methodologies.
- Evaluate and recommend approved alternative materials when necessary.
- Support fiber and copper infrastructure deployments while maintaining project standards and requirements.
Material Planning & Procurement- Review and interpret Bills of Materials (BOMs) to validate project requirements.
- Coordinate material procurement and delivery schedules.
- Support material forecasting and inventory planning efforts.
- Verify alignment between project designs, construction requirements, and available materials.
- Assist with procurement activities for large-scale data center projects.
Pre-Construction & Field Coordination- Participate in pre-construction meetings and site walks.
- Coordinate with subcontractors during scope reviews, bid collection, and project planning activities.
- Develop scope narratives and constructability recommendations to support estimating and proposal development.
- Identify infrastructure constraints, potential risks, and change-order opportunities.
- Ensure project feasibility through collaboration with project teams and stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration- Serve as the technical liaison between field operations, project management, estimating teams, subcontractors, customers, and general contractors.
- Provide technical support during customer meetings and product demonstrations.
- Assist in developing best practices, training materials, and quality programs.
- Support onboarding and training efforts for field leaders, superintendents, and project teams.
Required Qualifications- Experience supporting structured cabling, low-voltage, telecommunications, or data center infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic cable construction and fiber optic systems.
- Experience reviewing and managing Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Knowledge of material procurement and project material management processes.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, network layouts, and construction documents.
- Experience performing field assessments, quality inspections, and system testing.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience working in large-scale hyperscale or enterprise data center environments.
- Knowledge of fiber testing, certification, and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Familiarity with structured cabling standards and best practices.
- Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and project stakeholders.
- Previous experience supporting estimating, project engineering, or project management functions.
- Industry certifications related to structured cabling, fiber optics, or data center infrastructure.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Albany, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $42.00/hr.
