Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Asset Management (SAM) Lead to support a large federal enterprise environment. This role will be responsible for overseeing the full software asset lifecycle, ensuring governance, regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and cost optimization across the organization.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Software Asset Management, ServiceNow SAM Pro, software licensing compliance, and enterprise asset governance. This position will partner closely with Infrastructure, Security, Procurement, Finance, and Risk Management teams to protect enterprise assets, reduce compliance risk, and improve operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end Software Asset Management (SAM) lifecycle, including procurement, deployment, maintenance, utilization, and retirement of software assets.
- Lead and provide guidance to technical teams supporting software asset management initiatives.
- Ensure accurate software inventory reporting, reconciliation, and documentation to meet regulatory and financial requirements.
- Track software entitlements, monitor license utilization, and conduct internal compliance reviews.
- Perform detailed analysis within ServiceNow SAM Pro to provide visibility into software usage, compliance, and optimization opportunities.
- Support onboarding of new software products into ServiceNow, including requirements gathering, stakeholder engagement, and documentation.
- Develop and maintain software asset governance policies, procedures, and operational controls.
- Respond to internal and external audits, investigate licensing discrepancies, and resolve compliance issues.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements to enhance governance and reporting capabilities.
- Analyze software usage trends, contract data, licensing information, and renewal timelines.
- Drive software consolidation, cost optimization, and compliance initiatives across the enterprise.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Security, Infrastructure, Procurement, Finance, and Risk Management.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience managing enterprise-wide Software Asset Management (SAM) programs.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with ServiceNow Software Asset Management (SAM Pro) and Hardware Asset Management (HAM Pro).
- Strong understanding of software licensing models, contract management, compliance, and asset lifecycle management.
- Experience with asset data normalization, software catalog management, compliance dashboards, and reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Advanced Excel and reporting tool proficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor''s degree with 7+ years of experience, Master''s degree with 5+ years of experience, or 13+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.
- Must be willing to work onsite in Windsor Mill/Woodlawn, MD five days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building, enhancing, and maturing enterprise IT Asset Management governance programs.
- ITIL certification.
- Governance, audit, compliance, or risk management certifications.
- Experience supporting federal government environments.
- Strong background in audit readiness, software compliance, and IT governance initiatives.
